Birth Position: Birthing stool.

Whether you use a stool, the edge of the be or a chair this position is great to rock and roll. Gentle rocking back and forth and round and round can help ease discomfort during surges. This position also opens the pelvis and makes surges and birth pushing more effective.

Birth Position: Squatting

Now I know what your thinking- How would I manage that? And that looks painful.. remember your not alone, use the people and your environment around you. A sturdy chair at home or in the hospital, a supportive birthing partner, against a wall or between your partners legs whilst they sit are all ways to make this position achievable.

Squatting also called the ‘midwifes forceps’ works great when your in the pushing phase of labour. Its power works with gravity, enlarge the pelvis opening and speeds up the pushing phase of labour. You may also get a very special moment and help catch your beautiful baby.

Birth Position: Sitting

Using a birthing ball, partner or cushion to help support you or try sitting with one leg bent and the other relaxed out can ensure the uterus drops forward. This helps improve blood supply to contacting muscles and eases pressure of the diaphragm but remember not to lean too far back otherwise we will counteract these wonderful benefits.

Position: Hands and Knees

Boost oxygen to baby by using this Hands and Knees position. Its also great if staying upright has become tiring, surges are overwhelming or coming thick and fast. Whilst still using gravity to work for you, it helps to ease back discomfort caused when the back of babys head is pressed against the rear of the pelvis. This hands and knees position helps to slow down surges allowing time to connect with your body and baby and to find calm.

Position one: Upright

Let the power of gravity aid your babies journey down the birth path. During the first stages of labour, staying upright by taking part in a gentle walk can help things progress- but take care and don’t over do it, saviour that energy.

Sometimes in pregnancy it doesn’t always go to plan.

Special circumstances can creep up on pregnant people and throw them of track making them feel less empowered by there journey through labour and birth.

BUT

this doesn’t have to be the case. With preparation, knowledge, tools and techniques, the desired labour and birth is still achievable whether or not theres a few minor tweaks along the way.

Things to remember..
➡️ Ask questions as knowledge is power and it can help prepare for the unknown
➡️ Have more then one birth plan preparing yourself for every possibility
➡️ Remember the core value of hypnobirthing- to experience a UNIQUE, CALM and EMPOWERING BIRTH- however that looks
➡️ Remember the acronym BRAINS (see earlier post)

Special circumstances is part of the hypnobirthing course and if you would like to know more about how I could support you then please DM me.

As a Hynpnobirthing instructor I understand the astonishing effects hormones have on our pregnancy, labour, birth and post natal phases. However, having recently struggled with my babies sleeping patterns I seeked some outside help from and learnt how our babies hormones also influence there sleep. Having put my knowledge and routine practice to the test over the last 48 hours, the change has been incredible and I cant wait to continue to learn and develop in the world of pregnancy, birth and babies!

I just love learning how amazing our bodies are, no matter how small or big!
