Trauma doesn't just live in memories. It lives in the body.
In the tension you carry before a conversation. In the exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix. In the way you brace yourself before something good, because you've been hurt before.
And one of the most important things I want people to know is this: that exhaustion is not weakness. It is the cost of carrying something heavy, often alone, often in silence.
Here's what trauma can quietly do to your energy:
🟡 Elevated stress hormones keep your body in a constant state of alert — and that drains you deeply L Hypervigilance means your brain never fully rests, even at night
🟡 Intrusive memories take effort to manage — mental energy you didn't agree to spend
- Reliving painful experiences is exhausting in ways that are hard to put into words
🟡 Guilt, shame, and self-doubt loop in the background
— quietly wearing you down
🟡 Hiding your pain from the people around you takes more out of you than you know
- The healing journey itself has ups and downs — and that non-linearity can feel discouraging
- Feeling isolated, like no one around you truly understands, adds another layer of weight
- When healing feels slow or stuck, the frustration is real — and valid
If any of this feels familiar, please know: you are not dramatic. You are not too sensitive.
