As the week draws to a close, the team at H Porter and Sons has taken the time to reflect on the recent case of a company offering funerals in Hull.
We were deeply saddened by the experiences so many families have endured, and our thoughts remain with them. No family should ever face distress at a time when they should be able to place complete trust in those caring for their loved one.

Yay - we're pleased to report that one of the key accreditations recognising our commitment to environmentally friendly business operations has been renewed for another 12 months.

We're proud holders of the Platinum certificate awarded by the Greener Globe Funeral Standard (GGFS), an industry scheme that audits funeral businesses and measures the sustainability of waste disposal, recycling, energy use and other processes.

It’s our BCorp Anniversary!

In 2025, we reached a major milestone by obtaining B Corp certification at H Porter & Sons, after a lot of hard work. One year on, we are proud to celebrate this key moment in our journey.

We just had to share this. It's hard to believe that in six short years, our staff wellbeing garden has gone from bare earth to this blooming piece of paradise!

In these warm summer months, we use it regularly to unwind, take a break and cool down. If you run a business and have a small piece of land, we highly recommend creating a small garden - we can't overstate the benefits it will bring to your team.

Meet our newest team member, Zara Chapman, who joined us a month ago as an Office Administrator specialising in stone memorials.

Zara helps families source fitting headstones and ensure the perfect inscriptions are chosen to honour their loved ones. She has already made a wonderful impression on both her colleagues and the families in our care.

Thank you to BBC Birmingham Midlands Today for sharing the moving story of Felicity Rock, who found great comfort in being able to take part in weaving her late parents’ willow coffins.

"Acts of love" like Felicity's are just one example of how funerals are changing. More and more families want to connect their final farewells with the natural world, and as a B Corp-certified business, we are incredibly pleased to see greener, sustainable funerals becoming commonplace.

At H. Porter & Sons, we're proud to say that 33.5 per cent of the coffins we provide are sustainable options, including wicker, willow and cardboard. This puts us considerably ahead of the global average of 14.7 per cent, according to recent research.

We had a fascinating time at the Wolverhampton Business Show this week meeting lots of potential local suppliers, many of whom share our commitment to sustainability and making business a force for good in the world.

In particular, we were really impressed with Techys2u, a fantastic Stourbridge-based team who offer global IT expertise to SMEs in our area.

We'll be evaluating all the local firms we met at the event, which took place at the Molineux Stadium, with a view to forging partnerships that aid our green ambitions while supporting the Black Country economy.

Well done to for putting on such a great show.
