💧 Hot Weather Tip: Keeping Older Adults Hydrated

☀️ As we get older, we often don’t feel thirsty until we’re already becoming dehydrated. During hot weather, it’s important to drink regularly—even if you don’t feel thirsty.

Simple ways to increase fluid intake:
💧 Offer a small drink every hour rather than large amounts at once.
🍓 Include water-rich foods such as melon, strawberries, cucumber and jelly.
🫖 Tea, coffee, milk and sugar-free squash all count towards daily fluids.
🧊 Try ice lollies, ice cubes with fruit, or chilled flavoured water if plain water isn’t appealing.
🥤 Keep a favourite cup or water bottle within easy reach throughout the day.

⚠️ Watch for signs of dehydration: dark urine, dry mouth, dizziness, headaches, confusion or unusual tiredness.

Good lighting around your home can make a big difference to safety and peace of mind 💛

✔ Keep entrances and driveways well lit
✔ Make sure paths and steps are clearly visible
✔ Replace bulbs promptly if they stop working
✔ Consider timer lights to give the impression someone is home
✔ Keep outdoor areas tidy to avoid trips and hazards

A well-lit home helps prevent accidents and can also deter unwanted visitors 🌿
