Cervical screening can determine whether you have human papillomavirus (HPV) and changes in your cells that could go on to develop into cancer if left untreated. If you are aged between 25 and 64 it's important to book and attend for screening when invited.

If at any time you feel something isn't right, don’t wait, contact your GP.

💙 October is Health Literacy Month! 💙

Your health matters – and understanding your health matters too! 🩺

Health literacy is about having the information, knowledge and confidence to make decisions about your health and wellbeing.

But we know that navigating healthcare services, understanding medical information, or knowing where to turn for support can sometimes feel overwhelming.

💬 It's okay to ask questions.
💬 It's okay to ask someone to explain things again.
💬 It's okay to ask for help.

As part of the GP practice team, Social Work can help people look at the bigger picture of their health and wellbeing.

We recognise that good health isn't just about medical appointments or medication. Things like money worries, housing, loneliness, caring responsibilities and everyday challenges can all affect how we feel.

💙 You don't have to navigate everything on your own.

This Health Literacy Month, we want to encourage everyone to feel confident asking questions, understanding their options and accessing the support that's right for them.

✨ Remember: No question is a silly question when it comes to your health!

It's important to be breast aware and check your breasts regularly for changes. While breast cancer can occur at any age, the risk of developing it increases with age and most occur in women over the age of 50.

If you are a man aged 65, you will be invited to take part in the AAA screening programme.

By attending your screening appointment, it is possible to detect, monitor and treat most abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA).

If you have been invited to attend for screening and missed your appointment, please contact the AAA Screening Programme Office on 028 9615 1212 to arrange an appointment and receive information about AAA screening. Offices are open Monday – Friday 10am-4pm.

Sharing Learning and Improving Together in General Practice

Lynda Haire, Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) at Dunamanagh Medical Practice, attended the General Practice Quality Improvement Conference on 14 October at the Glenavon Hotel, Cookstown. The conference theme, “Improving Together: Sharing Learning Across General Practice,” celebrated collaboration, innovation and the sharing of best practice to improve patient care.

Lynda presented her quality improvement (QI) poster, “Improving Menopause Care: Turning Good Practice into Routine Practice.” Her project focused on improving the consistency and quality of menopause consultations through the use of a standardised hormone replacement therapy (HRT) consultation template, supported by staff education and ongoing improvement.

She was joined by her colleague Jenna Bresland, Practice Nurse Practitioner and Asthma Trainer at Dunamanagh Medical Practice, who presented her own QI poster, “Improving Asthma Care in Schools.” Jenna’s project focused on improving asthma awareness and education in school settings, helping school staff recognise asthma symptoms, understand the appropriate use of reliever inhalers and support children with asthma more effectively.

Both projects highlighted the importance of education, collaboration and sharing learning to improve health outcomes and promote consistent, high-quality care across the community.

Their presentations demonstrated the valuable work being undertaken at Dunamanagh Medical Practice to drive quality improvement, support colleagues and enhance patient care through practical, evidence-based initiatives.

💜 World Menopause Day – 18th October 💜

We are raising awareness of menopause and the importance of providing support, understanding and compassionate care for women at every stage of their journey.

Our Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Lynda Haire, provides dedicated menopause care at Dunamanagh Medical Practice, helping women understand their symptoms, explore treatment options and make informed decisions about their health.

We encourage women to seek advice, ask questions and access the support they deserve.
