💭 Getting to Know Our Residents – “What I Used to Do”
Every resident has a story to tell, and sometimes the best way to get to know the person in front of us is to learn about the life they lived before joining us. ❤️
As part of our “What I Used to Do” activity, we’ve been finding out about the jobs and careers our residents had throughout their lives – from the places they worked to the skills they developed, the people they met and the memories they made along the way.
Getting to know these details is about so much more than simply knowing someone's previous occupation. It helps us understand who they are, what matters to them and what has shaped the person they are today.
Knowing a resident’s history can help our team to:
✨ Create meaningful conversations around familiar experiences
✨ Identify activities and hobbies that are genuinely interesting to them
✨ Understand their individual likes, dislikes and preferences
✨ Build stronger relationships and trust
✨ Encourage independence by recognising skills they have developed over a lifetime
✨ Provide care that is truly personalised and person-centred
For our residents, sharing these memories can also be a wonderful opportunity to reminisce, celebrate their achievements and recognise the valuable contributions they have made throughout their lives.
Because here at Quinton House, we don't just want to know our residents' names – we want to know their stories. 💛
And who knows… we may discover that some of our residents had some very interesting careers along the way! 👀
