Spaces still available for the Relationship Workshop I’m offering this September and October in Stroud.

“Happily ever after”.. well just how do we actually do that?! How to stay genuinely close to someone over years. How to repair after a fight without it festering for days. How to ask for what you need without it turning into the same argument you’ve had a hundred times.

It seems many of us are still running on instinct, whatever we absorbed growing up, and the quietly unrealistic idea that if you love someone enough it should just.. work.

It doesn’t always which isn’t a failure, it’s just that this stuff is hard and we were never taught it.

What we now understand about relationships has moved on and the science of what actually makes love last, what creates safety, what breaks trust and what repairs it, is now out there and I’ve been learning from different modalities and is so love to share it with you. Let’s make things better together

Three Saturday mornings across September and October. Drawing on IFS, Relational Life Therapy, Gottman and Imago. Practical, experiential, and genuinely useful whether you’re in a relationship or not.

12th September, 10th and 17th October
9.30am to 1.30pm
The Exchange, Brick Row, Stroud

Good coffee, pastries and fruit included.

£120 per person · £200 per couple for the full series
Single sessions also available but the sessions do build on each other.

Message me or visit www.stroudtherapy.com to book your place, payment due first week September. Would love to have you in the room. ☀️

August is a good time to notice things… Away from routine, unstructured time, kids maybe at home, a little more space to breathe, sometimes a little more time with the people closest to us.

Which can be lovely.

It can also surface things we usually stay too busy to feel.

If this summer has you thinking about your relationship or about the patterns that keep showing up however hard you try.. maybe you’d consider coming joining me in a relationship workshop I’m running over three Saturday mornings in Stroud this September and October.

For couples and individuals.

Grounded in IFS, RLT, Gottman etc. it’ll be experiential and with some teaching

Coffee and pastries included.

Payment late August, there’s currently a few spaces remaining available so if you’d like to come do be in contact for the initial “save the date” list

Partner has taken a “pause” mid argument.. and my parts jump to attention..

🪨 Stoic Part: “They said twenty minutes. We move on.”
(job: keep us moving /
fear: if we stop, the feelings flood in)

💨 Escapist Part: “I’ve sort of… already moved on actually.”
(job: get us out before it hurts / fear: if you leave first, you don’t get left)

😬 Anxious Part: “Are they REALLY coming back though? The little ones are storming the gates .. agggh.”
(job: scan for abandonment / fear: we’ve been scared and left before and it could happen again)

Self: “A responsible time-out says: they’ll be away and then come back. I wonder what it would take for us to trust that.”

The responsible time-out - when we’re activated or shutting down - is recommended as a relational move in several couples therapies including IFIO, Gottman and RLT. it takes time for our nervous system to settle when activated. At least 20 minutes.. Some of us need to check in then and take even more time! The key is the return address. “I’ll be back in 20” changes everything. They can then go and attend to their own “IFS Round Table” or at least go for a walk or dance in the kitchen. The partner who stays has their own table, their own parts and their own little one to tend to while they wait.

I made up a composite trigger.. the parts and little ones underneath are very real. Yours will have their own version 🧡

A partner pushed back… agh … nervous system says it’s an emergency.

Avoidant Part: “It’s fine. It doesn’t matter.” (If I disappear, the disagreement ends. I don’t want fear and shame coming up.)

In comes polarised Explosive Part: “No.. it DID matter. I had a point.” (Fear and shame came up anyway so I torched them. Boom. Gone).

Inner Critic: “You’re so stupid. You always get it wrong.” (Ugh. I know neither of them work. I just want to improve us).

Self: “Maybe there’s a little one you’re protecting, one who had that belief put onto her. That she’s shameful. Broken. Maybe one day we can help her let go of it.”

One moment. Three parts. All trying to survive the moment with the intensity of it coming from a long time ago..💚

These sketches use composite triggers, not my personal diary and I use a little creative licence in my IFS 😝.. the parts and the little ones underneath are very real. Yours will have their own version.

Not quite “therapy”.. instead a circle of people learning, growing, and finding their way back together 🥳

This Friday in Cirencester, we’re running an IFS Circle .. it’s not therapy but experiential Internal Family Systems.. you’ll be working with your own nervous system, noticing which parts of you show up under stress, and exploring what it means to take a Self-led pause rather than just disappearing. The responsible time-out. The moment where you say: I need twenty minutes, I’ll be back

We’re looking at polyvagal theory [the science of how our bodies signal safety or threat] and IFS parts work [the map of which parts of us tend to take over].

Useful for anyone noticing they either explode, flee, appease, freeze or withdraw when things get heated .. so basically, everyone.

Friday 17th July
The Bothy, Ashcroft Road, Cirencester
10.30am–12.30pm
With Karen, Amy and me
Suggested donation £10
Proceeds to room hire and Cirencester Signpost

No prior experience needed. Come as you are. Bring your nervous system.

A brief shout out and recommendation as I’m loving “Poems for My Parts: An IFS Therapy Journey” by my brilliant friend Emma Coyne

The cover is even richer in real life, it’s a deep cherry red more like the official pic, not my photo.. it’s so lovely to touch, a tactile experience and the illustrations inside are a treat too, little bits of loveliness. A hardback is coming eventually but honestly, this paperback is a beautiful thing in its own right.

Inside, Emma gives voice to her internal parts with an authenticity that’s just so lovely to be with. The part standing arms-crossed and critical, another curled up whispering to be heard, one gritting its teeth to hold everything in.. so many more in the wonderful inner world of Emma. She also doesn’t just write about these parts.. she then sits with them so they don’t feel so alone. we’re on the journey right along side her. Our inner worlds are each different of course .. Emma models meeting her own parts in a way that allows us to do this with our own.

Richard Schwartz, founder of IFS, calls her work “extremely evocative and disclosive.” As someone who works in this field, I couldn’t agree more. Love it.

Honest, tender, neurodivergent fabulousness. An invitation to get this book and have it out so others can pick it up and enjoy it poem by poem

Congratulations Emma 🩷
