Following the deeply distressing events recently exposed in Hull, we wanted to take this opportunity to reassure local families that, at W A Deacon Funeral Services, you can have complete confidence that your loved ones will be treated with the utmost care, dignity and respect, and that we will organise funeral arrangements according to your wishes and expectations.

We are proud to be a family-run, independent funeral directors based in Lavenham, with a history spanning four generations. Our story began in the late 1800s with Bertram Deacon, whose business combined wheelwrighting, building and undertaking. Following the Second World War, the business evolved into W A Deacon under his son, William Deacon. His son, David, then joined the company in 1958, and in the early 2000s we became a dedicated, stand-alone funeral directors.
Today, David is enjoying a much-deserved semi-retirement, while his son, Paul, continues the family tradition as Funeral Director at W A Deacon Funeral Services.

We believe that being independent and family-run is something very special. It means that when families come to us at one of the most difficult times in their lives, they receive a personal service from people who genuinely care. Our reputation has been built over many years on trust, compassion, professionalism and attention to detail.

We are proud to be long-standing members of both the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF). We fully support appropriate regulation within the funeral profession and believe that stronger safeguards, including tighter requirements for those wishing to establish a funeral business and more regular inspections of funeral homes, would provide greater reassurance for bereaved families.

Come and meet us!

We had already planned to hold a Macmillan Coffee Morning this year, and in light of recent events, we feel that now is an especially appropriate time to open our doors to the local community.
We would love for you to pop in, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake, and meet the team. It will also be an opportunity to have an informal chat with us, ask any questions you may have about funeral arrangements or the funeral profession, and find out more about what we do.

Saturday 12th September, from 11.00am onwards at our premises:
W A Deacon Funeral Services, 3 Norman Way, Lavenham, CO10 9PY
We look forward to welcoming you!

As with most funeral directors, we are always here to help with a direct cremation if that is a family choice. But unlike some of the bigger companies we do not have strict conditions that apply, such as not allowing the family to view their loved one.

05/05/2026

This lady is telling her experience of an online direct cremation service. While a direct cremation is sometimes the wish of the deceased, often what it entails isn’t fully understood, and in this case the family chose to have a simple traditional service instead so that they could say goodbye and start the grieving process….

“These are our neighbours. This is our community. Saying goodbye doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. It’s about having a choice.” With 41% of people naming compassion as the number one thing they look for in a funeral director, we invite you to speak with us first. Get the local guidance and honest reassurance you deserve.
