Horse racing at the Alexandra Centre this morning, thank’s to our commentator Rob. Our patients had a blast. This therapy was mood boosting and enhanced social engagement. It included light physical activity, improving co-ordination. The patients enjoyed reminiscing about Ascot. 🐎 South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust

This morning our patients spent the morning in our lovely garden at SRH taking part in a garden sensory experience. There are many therapeutic benefits to spending time in the garden that include engaging in sight, colour, smell, touch and sound as well as meeting our little garden creatures!

They collected various leaves and enjoyed a leaf rubbing session. Leaf rubbing is an effective therapy and low stress sensory craft. It promotes relaxation, tactile stimulation and cognitive engagement for those with cognitive difficulties. 🍃 🐞 🪴 South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust

Yesterday Lynda and other patients had a ‘cool’ time making their own ice-cream cornets and reminiscing about summer holidays when they were younger. 🏖️ 🍦

Earlier last week the HELPA team held their first flower arranging session with the patients. Lot’s of lovely blooms to brighten their day! 🌺
