What should the future of adult social care look like?

Adult social care affects us all, whether directly or through our family, friends or community.

The Casey Commission's Big Conversation on Care is an opportunity to share your experiences, ideas and views on what a future National Care Service could look like.

Whether you access care and support, care for a loved one, work in the sector, or have an interest in the future of care, your views can help inform the conversation.

New funding is helping to tackle the sticky issue of chewing gum on streets 🧹

This is the fifth year Sunderland has received the funding for the Chewing Gum Task Force administered by Keep Britain Tidy to clean chewing gum up and prevent it from being littered in the first place.

This year's focus is on streets in Seaburn, Roker, Sea Road and Southwick Green, as areas with high footfall that suffer from persistent gum littering.

Have an idea for a festival or event in Sunderland? Let's make it happen.

Whether you're a community group, artist, volunteer organisation, cultural venue, local business or first-time event organiser, we want to hear your ideas.

The current round of Festival & Events Fund is looking for events that help people see Sunderland differently, whether that's by transforming a space, sharing stories in new ways, bringing communities together, or testing fresh and creative ideas.

You don't need to have run a large event before, and your idea doesn't need to be expensive or complex. Grants of £100 to £5,000 are available in the first year.

If you’re heading to the seafront, please enjoy the water safely🏖️

If you're planning to have a swim, always choose a beach with lifeguards on duty. In Sunderland, lifeguarded zones are now in place at Roker and Seaburn:

🛟Lifeguard times: 10am to 6pm daily, until Sunday 6 September
📍Look out for red and yellow flags – these mark where the zones are, and when a lifeguard is on duty at that zone
ℹ️Maps and information boards (located near the beaches) show where the lifeguarded zones are
