One of my favourite parts of working with riders is listening to how they describe what they’re feeling.

The smallest asymmetries can feel really obvious to the rider, even when they’re difficult to spot from the outside.

It’s amazing how often the rider’s perception points us in the right direction.

🟥 Yard jobs don’t replace a well-planned strength programme. Mucking out can make us crooked.

🟥 Your horse shouldn’t be your personal trainer. The stronger and more resilient you are, the better you can perform together.

🟥 There isn’t one magic exercise that fixes every problem. Your body is individual, so your programme should be too.

🟥 Balance isn’t just about standing on something wobbly. It’s a skill involving your eyes, inner ear and how your brain interprets information from your body.

🟥 Back pain is common in riders—but that doesn’t mean it’s something you should just accept.

Today I had a triathlete and a dressage rider with very different movement strategies and both responded completely differently to when challenging foot positions on the wedge.

I will never get bored of seeing how subtle changes can influence the way someone moves.

It’s one of the things that makes Physio work so fascinating 🙌😍

Your body isn’t trying to work against you.

It’s doing exactly what it’s learned to do.

If you’ve spent years riding with one movement strategy, your brain will keep choosing it—because it’s familiar, not because it’s the best option.

That’s why simply being told to “sit straighter” or “keep your leg still” doesn’t always work.

First we need to understand why your body is choosing that strategy.

Then we can give it a better one.

A mix of movement testing, chatting, riding, problem-solving and joining the dots.

No two riders are ever the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about this part of the job.

Often, the thing we notice in the saddle is only part of the story.
