Marvellous Musicals at Aston Court! 🎢🎭

Our team got into the spirit of the day by dressing up for our Marvellous Musicals celebration! We listened to a lovely relaxing musical playlist while residents enjoyed getting creative making bracelets. πŸ’Žβœ¨

A special mention goes to Irene, who was absolutely delighted with her bracelet featuring the names of her girls. Seeing the smiles on residents' faces while creating something personal and meaningful made the day extra special ❀️

Anyone else feeling more tired than usual lately? πŸ™‹

The darker days could be playing a part.
Your body clock relies on daylight to help regulate when you feel awake and when you feel sleepy. Right now, many of us are getting less natural light and more screen time, which isn’t always a great combination for good sleep.

As the evenings get darker, it’s natural to spend more time indoors. But bright screens can send your brain mixed signals, making it harder to switch off when bedtime comes around.

A few small habits can help support your body clock:
β˜€οΈ Get outside in daylight where you can
πŸ’‘ Keep lights lower in the evening
πŸ“± Try putting screens away before bed

Rain outside, music and smiles inside! πŸŒ§οΈπŸŽΆβ˜€οΈ

It may have been another wet and dreary afternoon yesterday at Aston Court, but that didn’t stop us! Our residents, families and staff had a brilliant afternoon with the lovely singer David MacFagan 🎀πŸ₯°

What a fantastic way to brighten up a rainy day! πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽ΅

HERE WE STAND TOGETHER
Through the wind and through the rain,
Different roads have brought us home.
Different journeys, different faces,
Now together, we stand as one. ❀️

What a fantastic day bringing together colleagues from different Bupa regions for a day of games, teamwork, laughter and making new connections! πŸ’™

Although we may work in different places and travel different roads, we are united by the same purpose and the Bupa values that bring us together: Brave, Caring and Responsible.

πŸ’™ Brave β€” making new possibilities happen, stepping outside our comfort zones and embracing new challenges together.

πŸ’™ Caring β€” showing empathy and respect, supporting one another and making everyone feel welcome and included.

πŸ’™ Responsible β€” taking ownership, doing the right thing and standing up for one another.

A huge thank you to Bupa for making this day possible and bringing so many different regions together. It gave us the opportunity to meet new people, build friendships, strengthen relationships and create memories that will last long after the day is over.

It wasn't just about the games or the competition. It was about connection, inclusion, teamwork and celebrating the amazing people who make Bupa what it is.

Different regions. Different journeys. One purpose. Shared values.

Here together, here we stand. πŸ’™πŸ€

πŸƒ School runs. πŸ“š Homework. 🀧 Sick days.

When life gets busy, it's easy for parents' own health to slip down the priority list.

So where does your health sit compared to your children's?

We took to the streets to ask parents exactly that, inviting them to place themselves on a scale and share their thoughts. The responses might feel familiar πŸ‘€

Because while caring for your family is important, looking after your own physical and mental wellbeing matters too πŸ’™

Everybody's experience of the menopause is different, and everyones experience is valid. Victoria is here to remind us that whilst it might be a challenge, the menopause shouldn't be something to be afraid of. We are wiser, stronger, and more capable because of our experiences, not in spite of them. πŸ’™

15/10/2026

What is perimenopause? It's the stage before menopause, when your hormone levels start to change.

You might still be having periods, but your body could already be going through changes that affect your physical and mental wellbeing.

Symptoms can vary from person to person. Some people experience hot flushes, sleep problems and changes to their periods, while others notice mood changes, difficulty concentrating or what's often called 'brain fog'.

You can still get pregnant during perimenopause, so it's important to keep using contraception until your GP says it's safe to stop.

There are ways to manage symptoms too. Regular exercise, a balanced diet and finding ways to reduce stress can all help. If symptoms are affecting your daily life, treatments and support are available.

Remember: your periods don't need to have stopped for you to get help. πŸ’™

What’s the best exercise to do during menopause? The answer isn’t just one thing.

Mixing up how you move can help support different parts of your health during menopause.

Cardio, like walking, cycling, swimming or dancing, gets your heart working.

Strength training, from squats and planks to lifting weights, can help build muscle and keep your bones strong

Yoga, Pilates and tai chi are great ways to work on balance and mobility.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Find movement you enjoy, mix things up and build a routine that works for you. πŸ’™

Here at Aston Court, one of our lovely residents, John, requested copies of the home's newsletters from the past year. Our Activities Team put together a special folder containing all of the newsletters for him to enjoy and look back on 😊

John was delighted with his thoughtful keepsake and enjoyed reminiscing about the many events, activities, and memories shared throughout the year πŸ₯°

What you sent: a funny meme.
What you meant: "I'm having a tough time."

For many of us, humour feels easier than honesty. Over 50% of adults say they're fine when they're not. 34% hold back because they don't want to worry the people they love, while nearly a third stay silent because they don't want to feel like a burden.

That's why it's worth paying attention to the messages behind the messages.

Ever sent a meme, funny video or random Reel that was actually saying a lot more than it seemed? πŸ’¬

Sometimes it's easier to send a joke than admit how we're really feeling. But according to Bupa's research, 51% of adults say they're "fine" when they're not. 34% stay quiet because they don't want to worry the people they love, and 30% don't speak up because they don't want to feel like a burden.

Sometimes the things we share say more than the things we don't.

Aston Court Games, there's something special about a game of dominoes. No matter our age or the experiences we've had throughout life, many of us can still remember sitting around a table enjoying a good game.

Dominoes is a true classic that has stood the test of time, bringing back fond memories, friendly competition, and plenty of laughter. It's a game from many of our residents' era, proving that some traditions never go out of style! 😊

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’™ Just 2 days to go until the ASICS Manchester Half!

In our latest video, Fionnuala Geoghegan, one of our MSK physiotherapists, explains why cooling down is an important part of your training routine and how it can support your recovery as you build towards event day.

But with the hard work now done, the priority is arriving at the start line feeling your best.

That means: 😴 Resting 🍝 Carb loading πŸ’§ Staying hydrated

And if you've ever needed permission to put your feet up and enjoy that extra bowl of pasta, here's your sign, straight from a physiotherapist!

Trust the training, look after yourself, and enjoy the experience on Sunday. You've got this! πŸ‘

This is health.

β˜• Last week, residents in our care homes up and down the country came together to host their own Macmillan Coffee Mornings, raising money for an incredible cause while enjoying plenty of tea, cake and great company.

From helping to bake delicious treats to sharing them with friends, family and neighbours, it was wonderful to see so many people getting involved and making memories along the way. 🍰✨

Beyond raising money, the coffee mornings also provided a wonderful opportunity for residents to connect, socialise and spend quality time together, something that's so important for wellbeing and building a sense of community.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the events and helped raise funds.

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Ever spent more time worrying about what to wear for a run than the run itself?

Claire remembers feeling self-conscious when she first started running, often choosing clothes that helped her blend in rather than what felt most comfortable.

Now she'd tell any new runner the same thing: wear whatever helps you feel good. Show your legs, don't show your legs, it's completely your call.

The only thing that matters is getting out there. πŸ’™

See Claire on the start line of the ASICS Manchester Half this October. πŸ™Œ
