Would We? Episode 1 - DIY Microneedling 😳
Welcome to our brand new series ‘Would We?’, where our team give their honest opinion on trending treatments and techniques. We’re kicking things off with a big one - DIY microneedling. And Jemy has a lot to say about it 👆
The short answer? Absolutely not.
Microneedling is a clinical procedure that requires sterile equipment, precise needle depths, and a thorough understanding of skin anatomy. The at-home rollers and devices widely available online simply do not meet these standards, and the risks of using them are very significant.
Unsterile needles can introduce bacteria directly into the skin, leading to infection, breakouts and in some cases, permanent scarring. Without the knowledge to adjust needle depth for different areas of the face, you also risk causing serious damage to delicate skin - particularly around the eyes and lips.
There is also the risk of making existing skin concerns worse. Without a proper skin assessment beforehand, DIY microneedling can aggravate pigmentation, rosacea and active acne rather than improve.
The results you see from a professional microneedling treatment come from clinical precision, sterile technique and the right aftercare — none of which can be replicated at home.
Let’s leave this one to the professionals 🤍
