Into Stillness – Coming This Summer & Autumn
When the world feels loud, chaotic and overwhelming, I have always turned inwards.
For over 35 years, meditation has been my refuge. It has been the place where I find stillness, peace and a sense of coming home to myself, no matter what is happening around me.
Over the years, so many of you have asked for more than a single meditation session. You want to go deeper, to understand the practice, to experience the profound quiet that exists beneath the noise of everyday life.
So, this summer and autumn, I will be opening the doors to a series of immersive workshops at The Retreat. Suitable for total beginners, it makes what seems complicated, easily accessible.
These sessions will be a deeper dive into the art of inner stillness, sharing practices and teachings that I have spent a lifetime learning and refining. Skills that have taken me around the world, taught by masters, lamas and monks, and developed to teaching level over decades of study and practice.
Together we will explore:
Finding calm in times of chaos
Creating a lasting sense of inner peace
Meditation techniques for modern life
Ancient wisdom for a busy world
How to cultivate stillness that stays with you long after the session ends.

If your soul feels tired, if you long for quiet, if you need a place to simply breathe and be, I invite you to join me.
Step away from the noise. Turn inwards. Discover the stillness that has always been waiting for you.
Into Stillness immersive meditation workshops coming soon at The Retreat.

ANAPANA MEDITATION & THE THREE CHANNELS

The breath is always with you. The path is always open.

In Tibetan Buddhism, every breath moves through three sacred energy channels and mindful breathing balances them all:

🔴 Roma (Right) Solar energy · Fire · Anger transformed
🔵 Uma (Central) Wind energy · Pride dissolved · Path of awakening
⚪ Kyangma (Left) Lunar energy · Earth & Water · Ignorance released

There are 5 simple steps
Sit quietly, back straight, eyes closed
Focus on the breath at the nostrils
Notice energy flowing through the channels
Visualize red · blue · white light balancing within
When mind wanders let it gently return

Benefits of regular practice
Reduces stress & anxiety
Increases focus & clarity
Improves emotional regulation
Cultivates deep inner calm

You don't need anything special
Just your breath. Just this moment. Just now. If you'd like to learn any kind of meditation, or find the one that works best for you, The Retreat offers private and group lessons, with a teacher with over 30 years experience trained all around the world.

After any operation, the body carries more than physical wounds.
In Taoist medicine, surgery is seen as a profound interruption to the body's natural rhythms. The flow of Qi is disturbed, tissues are cut, the Shen is unsettled, and foreign substances have entered the system. Even when healing is progressing well, many people describe feeling heavy, foggy, disconnected, or simply not quite themselves.
Auricular acupuncture offers a gentle way to support the body's return to harmony.
The ear contains a microsystem of the entire body. Through carefully selected points, we can encourage relaxation, calm the nervous system, support the movement of Qi and Blood, and help the body release what it no longer needs.
In Taoist thought, healing is not about forcing the body to recover. It is about removing obstacles so that the innate intelligence of life can resume its work.
When Qi flows freely, the body remembers its natural state.
Recovery is not simply the closing of wounds. It is the restoration of balance, vitality, and connection between body, mind, and spirit.

Its a well known fact that people who spend their time making other people well make the very worst patients! After a fairly major abdo op on Monday my lovely clients have sent flowers and messages, checking up on me, making sure I'm actually behaving myself and resting. So the above pic of my sexy TED socks snd pj's should tell you all I am! I'll be back in action at a slow pace and very carefully next week hopefully!

For a moment, everything seems to slow down, a sense of peace settles in, and nothing feels quite so urgent anymore.

WHERE IS YOUR ENERGY GOING?
A Taoist perspective on modern energy leaks!
In Taoist medicine, health isn't just about creating more energy, it's about protecting the energy you already have.
Imagine trying to fill a bucket while water is pouring out through holes in the bottom. No amount of supplements, treatments, coffee, or motivation can fully compensate for constant energy loss.
Some of the most common energy leaks in modern life include:
• Poor sleep or irregular sleep patterns
• Constant stress and overthinking
• Skipping meals or eating highly processed foods
• Too much sugar, alcohol, or caffeine
• Living in a permanent state of "busy"
• Excessive screen time and information overload
• Unresolved emotions that are continually carried rather than processed
• Lack of rest, recovery, and quiet time
• Pushing through exhaustion instead of listening to the body's signals
• Relationships and environments that leave you feeling drained
In Taoist understanding, energy (Qi) is precious. Before we focus on building vitality, we first need to stop wasting it.
True vitality comes from:
Deep, restorative sleep
Nourishing food
Calm breathing
Time in nature
Healthy boundaries
Meaningful movement like qigong
Moments of stillness and meditation
Sometimes the most powerful healing isn't adding something new. It's identifying what is quietly draining you and gently closing the leak.
Ask yourself:
What is currently costing me the most energy, and what small change could I make this week to protect it?
The Retreat Supporting health, balance, and vitality through holistic therapies and traditional wisdom.

I do wish the 'medical profession' would choose a stance on alternative remedies. So on researching on the net, you are advised ( by drug companies) that remedies aren't effective and are placebos, and you should only deal with your doctor for drugs to help treat post op bruising and pain. However, the same doctors who tell you alternative medicine is " just a placebo" also warn you not to take any of these placebo before surgery because it seems, they do actually do something... funny isn't it...
