When the best part of a business workshop was the swing….
Except it wasn’t the only good thing!!
Yesterday, I spent the day with a bunch of amazing small business people, at an event run by 3 amazing women - Fran Ash, Sarah Carter and Kim Goode, at the beautiful Albrighton Hall Hotel & Spa, a member of Radisson Individuals.
A whole day focusing on our business!
But what stood out for me most - the psychological safety these 3 ladies created that meant we could be open, honest, vulnerable and actually allow ourselves to play!
Yes play, at a business workshop!
I think this is something that many of us have forgotten how to do..
But it’s something very very close to my heart as it’s one of my values.. and something that I aim to bring into everything I do every single day!
When they told us at the lunch break there was a swing at the hotel, I was literally the first one running out the door to find it.
Because who doesn’t love to go on a swing.
To feel the wind in your hair and the freedom of floating through the air, and seeing just how high you can go!
Only a few other people reluctantly did the same - mainly at my encouragement (force!) but they absolutely loved it!
And something became very clear..
When did we lose the ability to play?
When did it become “inappropriate” to allow ourselves to play as adults?
Surely life is so much more than having to be serious, professional and grown up all the time?
Isn’t it time we ALL allowed our inner child a moment to shine, unapologetically?
Because when that happens, we bring the magic and joy back to the world.
We are more creative.
Full of joy and awe.
And the art of the possible seems to have no limits.
And isn’t that what we all need more of when it comes to our work and our lives.
So go find the swing. Go let yourself play, and give that little version of you a chance to shine!
