🗓️The Annual General Meeting (AGM) and annual members' meeting of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will take place on Wednesday 23 September 2026 from 5:30 pm.

Before the AGM, there will be a unique Improving Lives drop-in event featuring the fantastic work taking place across all three sites. The drop-in will give an insight into what is happening now and what is coming next for the Trust.

The Annual General Meeting will then begin and provide attendees with an in-depth look at the Trust’s performance.
The Improving Lives event will be held from 4:30 – 5:30 pm, and the AGM from 5:30 – 7:00 pm.

Thank you to everyone in our local community who has helped to share our message over the past few days while our Emergency Department has been very busy.

Though it seems small, just sharing our social media posts or telling a friend or family member really does help and we are very grateful.
The pressure has eased a little, but we are still very busy. Our staff are working hard to help people who need urgent care as quickly as they can.

Please remember that the Emergency Department is for people who need urgent help. If it is not an emergency, there are other places that can help you:

• Your local pharmacy can help with minor illnesses, such as a sore throat, sinus problems, a UTI, shingles or infected insect bites. Some pharmacies are open late and at weekends. Find out more here: https://notts.icb.nhs.uk/your-services/community-pharmacy/
• Your GP surgery can help during normal opening hours if it is not an emergency.
• NHS 111 can tell you where to go if you are not sure. Visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111.

If you are coming to the Emergency Department or Same Day Emergency Care unit at King’s Mill Hospital, or the Urgent Treatment Centre at Newark Hospital, please only bring one adult with you.

If you can come on your own, please do. This will help stop our hospitals from becoming too crowded.

Please remember to order your repeat prescriptions ahead of the summer bank holiday on 31 August.

Pharmacies can be busy around Bank Holidays and opening hours may be different, so any repeat prescriptions should be ordered as soon as possible.

You can do this easily be using the NHS app or getting in touch with your GP surgery.

The Emergency Department at King’s Mill Hospital is exceptionally busy today (Tuesday 18 August at 1.45pm).

If you think you need your NHS but it’s not an emergency, please:

• Think NHS111 first. You can visit 111.nhs.uk online or call 111 for advice on where to go to access the treatment you need.
• Seek advice from your local pharmacist, who may be able to help, including by suggesting over-the-counter treatments for many less serious conditions. Most local pharmacies can supply NHS treatment for conditions including sore throat, sinusitis, UTI, shingles, infected insect bites and some skin problems like impetigo (restrictions apply). This evening (Wednesday 12 August 2026), a partial solar eclipse will be visible across the UK.

It's a rare and exciting event that many people will be keen to watch.

We probably shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight – so you need to take care. Remember, your normal sunglasses may look great, but they won't cut it.

An amber heat-health alert is in place across parts of England from today until 14 August.

During an amber alert, hot weather can put more people’s health at risk – not just those who are usually more vulnerable.

Older people, young children and people with existing health conditions may be particularly at risk.

Our website is the digital front door to our hospitals.

More than 500,000 people visit it every year. For people who are blind, have sight loss, an eye injury, or struggle to use a device, accessing online information can be difficult.

In 2023, our website was not fully compliant with accessibility standards. It was completely redesigned and rebuilt, relaunching in May 2025.

We’re proud that it is now ranked as one of the most accessible NHS websites in the country.

This is about making sure everyone can access the information they need, when they need it.

Behind the scenes in Radiology, radiographers Millie and Beth have been carrying out some very important PPE checks this week!

Those heavy lead aprons you may have seen colleagues wearing during appointments are a vital part of their personal protective equipment, helping to keep them safe during procedures involving radiation.

This week, the team have been checking around 400 pieces of equipment for any holes, damage or wear and tear, making sure everything is safe, fit for purpose and ready to use.

Any damaged items are safely removed and disposed of, helping us protect the colleagues who care for our patients every day.

A big thank you to Millie, Beth and our Radiology team for helping to keep our colleagues safe!

Thanks to a generous donation from the Amazon Breast Cancer Support Group, patients having breast cancer surgery at Sherwood Forest Hospitals are benefiting from innovative Sentimag® technology.

The equipment uses tiny magnetic markers, called MagSeed®, to help surgeons accurately locate breast lesions during surgery — reducing the need for traditional wire-guided procedures.

Since its introduction, the number of patients needing a second operation to remove additional cancerous tissue has fallen by 10%, helping to improve recovery, reduce anxiety and support better outcomes.

The technology is now also being used for MagTrace®-guided sentinel lymph node biopsies, an iron-based tracer that is injected into the breast before surgery. The tracer naturally travels to the sentinel lymph nodes, allowing surgeons to identify and assess them accurately. This approach offers a more sustainable alternative to radioactive tracers while maintaining excellent clinical accuracy.

Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon and Cancer Lead, Mr Manas Dube, commented that the introduction of MagTrace is another significant step forward for breast cancer care at Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust, and thanked the Amazon Breast Cancer Support Group for making these advancements possible.

Angela Whawell, Secretary of the Amazon Breast The Amazon Breast Cancer Support Group, said: “We are delighted, thrilled and proud that our donation is making such a positive impact on innovative breast care services at SFH.”

The Trust would also like to pay tribute to the late Beryl Perrin, Chairperson of the group, whose dedication has left a lasting legacy for breast cancer patients. 💙
