EDIT

We hope you enjoyed our “April Fool” below and may be relieved (or disappointed!) to find out the post below was fictional.

But it raises 2 important points:

(1) “Just because you read it on Facebook doesn’t mean it’s true”.

Be naturally sceptical about information you read regarding health matters online and consider whether it is from a trusted source such as the NHS website or an organisation with a vested interest or that is trying to sell you something.

(2) General Practice needs to continue to employ real people. Whilst some tasks can be automated and technology can assist our staff and patients, we are keen to continue to campaign for adequate sustainable funding of General Pratice from Government to ensure that the person to person interaction of familiar faces trusted and embedded in their local communities does not become a thing of the past.

PS Did you spot in the original article:

“Looflirpa” is April Fool spelt backwards
“June 31st” doesn’t exist - only 30 days in June

—————————

We’re proud to announce a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) GP service at the surgery.

In line with the aims of the Government’s 10 Year Plan to both provide a greater number of appointments and increase the use of Technology, one of our salaried GPs Dr Betteridge-Sorby has for many months now been working alongside developers at the renowned Software company Looflirpa Technology Ltd to develop an AI Diagnostic Pod called “Ay Up Me Doc”.

Sited in the waiting room, patients will be able to consult with an AI GP and receive a prescription from the dispenser at the front, with an anticipated installation date of 31st June, 2026.

Dr Betteridge-Sorby said “We’ve heard mixed reviews about the roll out of other AI staffing models at local surgeries but I’m proud this takes it to the next level. Looflirpa approached me at a local civic engagement following their successful bid to provide AI Carbon dating technology for the Swadhenge historical site on Civic Way. I’m sure our patients will recognise that if they can be trusted with the historical accuracy of Swadhenge that should tell them all they need to know about how much trust they should put in this endeavour”.
