Today we had the privilege of bidding farewell to Paul Alan McCumisky, known to many simply as ‘Paddy’.

On one of the hottest days of the year, Booths provided a prestige fleet consisting of a hearse and two limousines to return Paddy home before his final journey to Bretby Crematorium.

As we arrived beneath the canopy at the Cedar Service Room, family and friends lined both sides, standing proudly together to show their love, respect and admiration for a man who meant so much to so many.

Family bearers lovingly guided Paddy into the chapel for a truly fitting service, beautifully led by Celebrant Lisa Sharpe.

His racing helmet, racing colours and floral tributes adorned his final resting place, while a touching visual tribute and heartfelt words from his son, John, painted a wonderful picture of the gentleman, family man and friend that Paddy was.

A special thank you goes to the drivers. Despite the soaring temperatures, they carried out their duties with professionalism, dignity and unwavering care throughout the day.

Thank you also to Katie, at Sweetpeas whose beautiful floral tributes looked stunning despite the challenge of working with fresh flowers in such extreme heat.

Following the service, family and friends gathered at one of Paddy's favourite watering holes, the Colvile Arms.

Our Director Helen made sure Paddy was there in spirit too, with his own seat reserved, his favourite pint of Pedigree served in his own glass, alongside his racing helmet and photograph, a simple but meaningful tribute to a man who will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Paddy. Keep your foot firmly on the floor as you race that highway to heaven... or perhaps, as you would have preferred, the “Highway to Hell” 🏁🍺

Our thoughts are with all of Paddy's family, friends and his racing community this evening.

God speed, Paddy 99 💙💛

Today, we had the privilege of caring for Mandy, a much-loved Mum, Nandy, Sister and dear friend to many.

The sun shone beautifully as we brought Mandy back to Newlands House for her final farewell to the residents and staff who had cared for her so wonderfully over the years. It was a touching moment, filled with love, respect and gratitude.

We were then greeted by the most beautiful white horse-drawn carriage, which conveyed Mandy on her final journey to Bretby Crematorium.

Floral tributes in shades of purple and yellow, along with purple plumes and blankets adorning the horses, reflected Mandy's favourite colour and added a personal touch to a truly special day.

The service, led by Nick Upton, brought both smiles and tears. Memories of the "special cake" in Amsterdam raised laughter amongst those gathered, whilst the treasured photographs and stories shared reminded everyone of the many lives Mandy touched. A heartfelt dedication read by her son, Marc, was a fitting testament to the loving, caring and selfless woman she was.

Mandy, today was your day. A day to shine brightly, with the sun lighting your way. A day for those who loved you to celebrate your life, your kindness and the memories you leave behind. May you now rest peacefully, living on in the hearts of all whose lives you touched.

Our thoughts this evening are with Mandy's family and friends as they reflect on a life well lived and a lady who will be greatly missed.

💙 On this Father’s Day, we give thanks for our dads and the love, guidance and memories they have given us throughout our lives. We also take a moment to remember those dads who are sadly no longer with us.

Today may be a difficult day for many. For some, it is a first Father's Day without their dad. For others, it is another year that has passed without them by their side. Yet in our hearts, the memories remain; the laughter shared, lessons learned, special moments treasured, and the conversations we wish we could have just one more time.

Today, we remember them and hold them close in our thoughts.

We also remember the fathers whose precious children are no longer with them. Your loss is not forgotten, and today we hold you in our thoughts and hearts with love and compassion.

To the families whose dads are resting peacefully in our care this Father's Day, please know that our thoughts are with you. We understand that today may be especially emotional, and we send our love and support to each and every one of you.

Should you need us, we are here.

With love and remembrance,

Helen and all at Shilvocks xx

At Shilvocks Independent Funeral Directors, we have long held concerns about some of the marketing approaches used by certain direct cremation providers.

We believe that families deserve complete transparency when making funeral arrangements and should always be given clear, accurate information about the services they are choosing. Unfortunately, some advertising can create an impression of what is included that may not reflect the reality of the service provided.

This week, those concerns have been recognised by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which has banned a television advert by Pure Cremation after ruling that it misleadingly implied that an attended funeral service was included within its standard plan, when this was not the case.

As an independent, family-run funeral director, we feel it is important to remind families of the value of choosing a local business. We live and work within the communities we serve. We know the people, the churches, the celebrants, the venues, and the traditions that make every area unique.

We are not a call centre hundreds of miles away. We are your neighbours. We build genuine relationships with the families who place their trust in us, often caring for several generations of the same family over many years. Those bonds matter.

When you choose an independent funeral director, you receive personal care, continuity, and support from people who are invested in your community and committed to providing the highest standards of service. We are accountable to the families we serve, and our reputation is built on trust, compassion, and transparency.

Every family deserves to make an informed choice based on clear facts and honest advice, whether they choose a traditional funeral, a direct cremation, or something completely unique to their loved one.

Today, we had the privilege of taking care of Steve on his final journey to Bretby Crematorium.

A heartfelt service, led by Nick Upton, gave a wonderful insight into the true family man Steve was, as well as his lifelong devotion to Leicester City Football Club. As a personal tribute, our Funeral Director Helen, wore a Leicester blue coloured tie and square in honour of Steve's favourite team.

The beautiful floral tributes were lovingly created by Katie at Sweetpeas, whilst the coffin featuring the Foxes emblem, was expertly crafted by JC Walwyn. Accompanying it was a matching heart shaped keepsake, featuring the same emblem, a special and lasting memento for Steve's beloved wife, Betty, to cherish.

The order of service was filled with photographs and memories from throughout Steve's life, allowing family and friends to reflect on the many happy moments he shared with those he loved.

The cortege was led by our pristine Jaguar hearse and limousine, with Ryan and Rowan serving as chauffeurs. At the crematorium both Brian and Scott were awaiting our arrival, all supporting the family throughout the day with care and dignity. Thank you.

Steve, we hope you are now at peace. Our thoughts, prayers and love remain with Betty, Matthew, Louise and your beautiful granddaughter, Freya, who showed such remarkable courage today. We know you would have been incredibly proud of her.

God bless, Steve. Rest peacefully

Sweetpeas Florist.

Today we said goodbye to Charles Barry Hughes, known and loved by many simply as Barry.

A man with a true love for life and an unwavering devotion to his family, Barry's service this afternoon in the Willow Chapel reflected exactly that. Heartfelt tributes were shared, treasured memories recalled, and there was scarcely a dry eye in the chapel.

Our thoughts are with Edith, Mandy, and Paul, along with their families and friends, as they navigate this difficult time.

With your trophies laid down and your crown now in place, may you rest in peace, Barry. Your memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
