Whilst away on holiday, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Kay and her lovely family and what a wonderful person she is!

From the moment we met, it was clear just how much care, compassion and empathy Kay has for others. Alongside that, she has an incredible talent for creating memory prints, beautiful, meaningful pieces that capture loved ones together, who have sadly never met, captured in such a precious and special way.

Kay has designed and edited memory prints for Charlotte Dawson, daughter of the late, much loved comedian and entertainer Les Dawson, which is a real testament to the quality and care she puts into her work.

I’m incredibly proud to now be able to offer Kay’s services to my own families. As someone who understands the importance of memories and the little details that make something special, I know her work will mean so much to the families we care for.

Kay is based right here in Derbyshire and her books are now open for orders for that truly personal and thoughtful Christmas gift.

If you're looking for something truly unique and personal, please take a look at her work and show some love to another wonderful local independent business.

Find Kay on Facebook and Instagram, give her page a follow, share her work and support a small business doing something incredibly special.

Sometimes the most meaningful gifts are the ones that get to tell a story of what should or could have been.

Yesterday, our team had the privilege of taking a gentleman into his parish church, Holy Trinity in Edingale, where he rested ahead of his funeral service, conducted today.

Whilst traditions may have changed over the years, it is still very much a choice for some families to have their loved one lay in wait, or to return home to the family home on the evening before the funeral.

There is no right or wrong way, every family is different, and every farewell should be personal.

Wherever possible, we are here to accommodate the wishes of the family, or, where known, the final wishes of their loved one. Whether that means spending their final night at home, resting in their parish church, or being cared for with us, we will always do our very best to make it happen.

It is an honour to care for someone in these final days and to help their family create a farewell that feels right for them.

Alongside Christine and Terry’s immediate family, was Scotch, his beloved rescue greyhound. making it an especially poignant and personal farewell.

Following the service, Terry was laid to rest within the beautiful grounds of Holy Trinity Church, where his burial and committal took place.
Our heartfelt thanks go to Reverend Rachel Busby, who wrote and recited a truly heartfelt and personal poem for Terry, beautifully depicting the passions and loves that made up his life, from obtaining his private pilot’s licence and his love of breeding show horses, to his beloved partner, Christine, and their much-loved rescue greyhound, Scotch.

Our thanks to the organist and the vergers for helping create such a meaningful service, and to our team of bearers for making Terry’s final journey one filled with dignity, respect and care.

It was an honour to look after Terry and to support Christine and his family during such a significant day.

May you be at peace Terry, our thoughts are with Christine and family this evening 🕊️

Dolly Parton — a voice that touched generations

Today, we say goodbye to Dolly Parton, a true icon whose music has been part of so many of our lives. From Jolene, and I Will Always Love You to the classic 9 to 5, her songs became memories for millions.

As funeral directors, we know that grief isn't only felt when we lose someone we personally knew. The passing of a much loved celebrity can affect us deeply because, through their music, they become part of our own stories, reminding us of people, places and moments from our lives.

For our Director, Helen, one of the first Dolly songs she remembers hearing was Love Is Like a Butterfly. Reminiscing of days gone by and sharing time with loved ones who are sadly no longer here.

Dolly leaves behind an incredible legacy of music, kindness and generosity. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and all those around the world who are feeling her loss today.

Rest peacefully, Dolly. 🤍

“Love makes your heart feel strange inside
It flutters like soft wings in flight
Love is like a butterfly, a rare and gentle thing….”

Today, family and friends gathered in the Cedar Chapel at Bretby Crematorium to say their final farewell to Mark, affectionately known by many as “The Spider Guy.”

Floral tributes were created for Mark, one a little cheeky, but something he liked 🫣.

A service led beautifully by Karen reflected on Mark’s life, his passions, his character, and the memories he leaves behind. Through stories, laughter, tears, and shared memories, those who loved him came together to celebrate a life that touched so many.

One of the most moving moments of the service came when one of Mark’s youngest followers sang “You Are My Sunshine” There was hardly a dry eye in the chapel as the heartfelt performance captured just how much Mark meant to those around him.

As the service drew to a close, family and friends were comforted by a fitting reminder of Mark’s spirit. Displayed on the screen was his photograph. Showing his a familiar thumbs up, a gesture that felt like one final message from Mark himself. A sign that everything will be okay.

The days ahead will undoubtedly be difficult. There will be moments of sadness, tears and longing for one more conversation, one more laugh, one more thumbs up. But if Mark could leave his loved ones with one final message, it would surely be “you will be okay”.

Our thoughts remain with all of Mark’s family and friends as they begin to navigate the days ahead. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of caring for Mark and supporting you in saying goodbye.

Today, we were entrusted with the care of a much loved mum, grandma, great-grandma and friend to many, as we gently accompanied her on her final journey to Bretby Crematorium.

It is always a privilege to be entrusted with someone so precious to a family, and today we did so with the same care, dignity and respect that we would give to one of our own.

Behind every funeral is a lifetime of memories, love and stories and today was about honouring a wonderful woman and the special place she held within her family.

To her family, thank you for trusting Shilvocks to care for her. We hope we helped make this difficult journey just a little gentler.

Rest peacefully Christine 🌹🕊️
