📣FLU VACCINES AVAILABLE📣

With all the hot weather recently, we know it seems a little early to be talking about flu vaccines, but winter is fast approaching!⏳

If you are 65 or over, live with an immunocompromised person, are pregnant, a carer, homeless, work with cows/pigs/chickens or have one of the below health conditions, get yourself booked in! Appointments are available from October.

👉Problems with your chest or breathing. This includes chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma, that need regular steroid inhalers or tablets
👉A heart problem
👉Kidney disease (from stage 3)
👉Liver disease
👉Nerve conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease or motor neurone disease
👉A learning disability
👉Severe mental illness
👉Diabetes
👉Adrenal insufficiency, such as Addison’s disease
👉Epilepsy
👉A weak immune system due to illness or treatment
👉A missing spleen or a problem with your spleen
👉Very overweight. This is a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more and aged 16 or over.

Please note that we do not print repeat prescription slips. These are printed by your pharmacy when dispensing your medication.

To reduce paper use, we encourage patients to order repeat medication through the NHS App.

Is your child aged 2 or 3?🥳

Talybont Surgery would like to invite you to one of our flu parties. Come and meet the Tal-y-Bear, protect yourself from flu and get a sticker of bravery for attending. You can’t leave without collecting your party bag and balloon either.

Here are just 5 reasons we think you should bring your child along:
🎉 The vaccine helps protect children from flu and more serious complications like bronchitis and pneumonia
🎉 It will help to protect your vulnerable family and friends
🎉 There is no injection needed. The nasal spray is painless and easy
🎉 Its much better than being unwell with the flu
🎉 It means parents or carers are less likely to need time off from work to look after an unwell child

If you are as excited as we are, secure your party date before slots run out!⏳

A text booking link has been sent to all eligible patients today. If you can't make our party dates, don't worry we can find a slot for you at a more convenient time. If the parties fill up, we will still be able to find space to vaccinate your child in our normal nurse clinics.

We will be releasing adult flu dates shortly, only the 2 and 3 year olds are available for booking at the moment.

We are delighted to announce that all 5 of our trainee pharmacists this academic year have passed their GPhC exam and will be fully qualified, registered pharmacists in a matter of days!

Congratulations to Adam, Geraldine, Mahir, Martha and Seren! You've all worked extremely hard and have supported countless patients with their medicines over the past 12 months through kindness and consideration - your supervisors, Tom and Jazz, and the rest of the team are immensely proud of you all.

We are also thrilled to announce that Kathy, our prescribing clerk, has also completed her 2- year pharmacy technician training programme and will be a fully registered pharmacy technician, working full- time at the surgery this Autumn. She is the first in Wales to complete the course across both GP and community sector. Well done Kathy - we are all very proud of you.
