Great to be on Welsh Coast Radio-WCR this morning to talk about and the activities and support funded by Swansea Council for residents over the summer 🌞

A huge thank you to Rebecca Fogarty - Councillor for West Cross for joining Rob Pendry in the Welsh Coast Radio studio today. 🎙️

It was a really informative chat covering some of the fantastic support and opportunities available across Swansea this summer, including:
☀️ Free summer activities for children, young people and those aged 50+, thanks to Swansea Council funding.

🚌 Free weekend bus travel during the summer holidays (remember, journeys must start before 7pm to qualify).

🥪 Information about food banks and summer food schemes available to support local families.

Volunteers Needed – West Cross Caffi and Food Distribution Centre

Do you have a few hours on a Thursday morning? We would love to hear from you!

We are looking for volunteers to help at the West Cross Caffi between 9 am and 12.30 pm on a Thursday. The role is flexible and involves helping with the preparation and distribution of surplus food to support the other volunteers.

It is a great opportunity to meet new people and make a difference in the local community. We have a committed team of volunteers who are really making a difference but need some extra help.

More of our electric box art complete, this time celebrating the work of volunteers at Bethany Community Gardens just across the road.

The gardens are undergoing a makeover to make them more nature friendly and attractive to passers by using the prom. All the work has been done by a cracking team of volunteers who have also worked with local schools. Find out more on their Facebook group Bethany Gardens 🧘🏼

You may have spotted the fabulous planting thanks to seeds from Mumbles Community Council and the new bee log provided by the Nature Recovery team at Swansea Council who also helped the volunteers with some tools.

Free bus travel is back this summer!

Great bit of partnership working yesterday - supporting the Bee Friendly Streets project with Mumbles Community Council and thanks to Swansea Council for providing wood chip to give the new beds by West Cross top shops a good tidy up. They're looking so much better, and we saw so many bugs and bees, so the planting is definitely doing its job! Thanks to everyone who helped out.

Great to be at Sip by the Sea and the launch of Find It for the Foodbank organised by the brilliant team at the Sea Wall Sale.

Find It for the Foodbank is an example of a community coming together in a creative way to make a real difference.

30 local businesses are taking part by hiding something in their shop window for you to find. Entry forms will be available from Captain's Cabin in Mumbles from 1st August, suggested donation of £2.

All proceeds are going to West Cross Foodbank who are open every Monday for local residents who need it most.

The Sea Wall Sale has raised £7,300 for the Foodbank. In the last 3 months alone, the Foodbank has redistributed 1800kg of food and essential items, helping 140 adults and 40 children.

Thanks to everyone for their support - get involved and enjoy finding it for the Foodbank!

Great news that the Council's free bus offer is back over the summer holidays! Kicking off with airshow weekend 25th and 26th July, and running every Saturday and Sunday plus the bank holiday Monday during the school holidays. 🚍🚍
