Well done to Amelia, AHP Education Lead, Megan, Front Door Therapy Team Lead, Beth and Russel, Occupational Therapists and Ruth and Lucy, Physiotherapists, who have been chosen as finalists in the Chief Allied Health Professions Officer Awards, for the AHP Creative Provision of Placements award category. ⭐👏

The Occupational and Physiotherapy students delivered a multi-professional placement model that expanded learning capacity, improved service responsiveness and reduced deconditioning, length of stay and care needs through earlier therapeutic interventions.

When someone is receiving critical care, the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference. 💙

As a Ward Clerk on our Critical Care Unit, Sharon is often one of the first friendly faces patients and visitors meet. She helps patients and their loved ones navigate what can be an emotional and uncertain time, offering reassurance, support and a listening ear when it is needed most.

Sharon said: "Sometimes, a simple cup of tea or an open and supportive chat can help patients, families and friends know that we are there every step of the way."

Recognising that recovery is about more than physical health, Sharon has also created religious care boxes for the unit. These provide patients with access to spiritual items and resources that support their faith, wellbeing and comfort during their hospital stay.

Thank you, Sharon, for your dedication to creating a more inclusive and compassionate experience for our patients.

Our hospital is currently very busy, so our teams are working with families to help patients get home as soon as they are well enough. 🏠

If you have a loved one who is nearly ready to leave hospital, we will contact you in advance of their discharge to start working with you to ensure the patient can leave as quickly as possible.

This might be to discuss onward care, equipment or simple things you can do to make their journey home easier, such as stocking the medicine cabinet.

If your loved one needs to wait a bit longer for medication or transport, we might ask them to wait in the discharge lounge so we can give their bed to another patient.

From Tuesday 1 September, we will be offering free flu vaccinations to all pregnant women and pregnant people to help protect both you and your baby during the winter months. 🤰

📍 Walk-in clinic, Great Western Hospital, Women's Outpatients Department, Floor 2

🕒 Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm & Saturday 5 and 19 September, 8.30am to 3pm.

We also have appointments available at community locations. To arrange an appointment, please email [email protected].

💉 While you're planning your flu vaccination, remember that we're also continuing to offer whooping cough vaccination from 16 weeks of pregnancy and RSV vaccination from 28 weeks of pregnancy.

These vaccinations help protect you and your baby from serious illness and are an important part of your maternity care.

Our staff are working extremely hard to move patients into available beds, so we can provide ongoing care for those who need it most.

We will see all patients who come to hospital, but it may take slightly longer than usual.
