Phlebotomy training in the UK - learn how to take blood, with no experience needed.

If you’re not afraid of blood, this is one of the fastest ways into healthcare work in this country. Taking blood is a practical skill, and once you have it you can work in hospitals, GP surgeries, private clinics and laboratories - or in mobile phlebotomy, visiting people at home.

Don’t know where to start? You can start with us.

Our phlebotomy training is accredited by CPD UK. It’s built for complete beginners - no degree, no medical background, no previous experience. You practise properly first and a trainer stays beside you the whole way through. Most people who walk into our training room have never held a needle before.

After you finish, you get access to our free Job Support Webinar, where we show you where to find suitable healthcare vacancies, how to apply for them, and how to put together a professional CV. Plenty of courses hand you a certificate and leave you there. We don’t.

Phlebotomy courses run across the UK - London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Cardiff, Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Swindon - and you choose your own city and date.

💬 Comment “Interested” and we’ll send you the full course details.

🎃 Fitting day to say it: the needle is not the scary part.

Ask anyone who does this for a living and they will tell you the genuinely nerve-racking bits are:

• The patient who says “nobody can ever get me”
• Realising mid-round that the lab cut-off is in twenty minutes
• A tube that stops filling with four more to go
• Being asked a question you do not know the answer to

Not one of those is about the needle. All of them are about having a plan.

Which is exactly what one supervised day gives you.

❌ “Isn't phlebotomy just what you do if you could not get into nursing?”

No — and the people who say it have usually never watched a busy round.

Some of our learners are heading towards nursing and training with us to get clinical hours behind them first. Others have no interest in nursing at all, because they want the patient contact without the paperwork, the hierarchy and the degree.

There are experienced phlebotomists who could have gone into nursing and chose not to. That is a decision, not a consolation.

Most people trying to get into healthcare think the barrier is qualifications. Usually it’s skills.

A certificate says you studied something. A clinical skill says you can do the job from day one - and these are the three that keep coming up on healthcare assistant and support worker adverts:

Phlebotomy - taking blood. Used in hospitals, clinics and GP surgeries every day of the week.

Cannulation - putting in a cannula. Needed anywhere patients are on fluids or IV medication.

Vaccination and immunisation - giving injections. Flu and COVID campaigns staff up every year, and they need trained people.

Each one takes a single day of practical training. You practise properly first, with a trainer beside you, and you only work on a real person when you’re ready. Most people who come to us have never done any of it before.

All three are available at Phlebotomy Training Institute, in your own city, on a date you pick.

❤️ A poor ECG trace is usually a skin problem, not a heart problem.

Electrodes need clean, dry skin with good contact. Which means: wipe away sweat, lotion or oil, clip hair rather than pressing harder, and check the electrode gel has not dried out before you use it.

Skip the preparation and you get a noisy trace, which either gets repeated or gets misread.

Nobody becomes a better ECG practitioner by learning more about rhythms while recording bad traces. Preparation is the skill.

We teach it on real equipment, hands-on, in one day.

Most people never try for healthcare work because they assume you need experience first. You don’t.

Almost everyone who walks into our training room has never held a needle. They’re nervous, they’re sure they’ll be the worst one in there, and they’re usually sitting next to somebody thinking exactly the same thing. By the end of the day they’ve taken real blood.

You start with the theory online, at home, in your own time. Then you come in and practise on manikin arms until your hands know what they’re doing - tourniquet, angle, needle, tubes. Only after that does anyone go near a real arm, and only when you say you’re ready, with a trainer beside you the whole way through.

Taking blood is one of the most needed practical skills going, used in hospitals, clinics and GP surgeries every day of the week.

You leave with a CPD accredited certificate and free job support webinar - help with where to apply and how to write an application that actually gets read. You pick your own city and your own date.

⚠️ November seats are open now.

📩 A rejection is information, if you go and get it.

Ring or email and ask for feedback on your application specifically. Most NHS recruiters will give it, and it is usually one concrete thing: a criterion you did not evidence, or no proof of recent practice.

Then fix that one thing and apply again — including to the same employer. Reapplying is normal and nobody holds it against you.

What does not work is sending the identical application to thirty more places and concluding the sector is closed to you.

One piece of feedback is worth twenty more applications.

🩸 One word. What is the thing you are actually worried about?

Needles. Money. Time. Age. Failing. Being judged.

Just the word, in the comments 👇

We will answer every single one properly and honestly, including if the honest answer is “that is a fair concern and here is how people handle it”.

No pitch. We would rather you decide with real information than book on a whim and regret it.
