The inference is that only an Angel could tolerate working with or for a person with a disability. “I don’t know how you do it. You are an Angel for taking care of that person.” It’s demeaning to the person with a disability. It’s belittling. Are you an Angel for working as a Barista at Starbucks ? No? Why not ? What if we replace the person with a disability with an ethnicity ? Does that have the same feel to you? Do we only recognize patronization & ignorant statements in Certain circumstances that exclude people with disabilities ? You are such an Angel for working with that person ___________. Fill in the blank. Does that seem like it would be a compliment ?
