Want to know more about exercising in the heat and signs and symptoms of heat Illness? This is a great post and more information is in the link in the bio

The World Cup is starting tomorrow, and heat will be a big player 🔥

High temperatures increase the risk of dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and, in severe cases, heat stroke.

Graduate Sports Therapists help keep players safe and performing:

• Monitor hydration and early warning signs
• Implement safe heat acclimatisation plans
• Adjust training, timing and recovery to conditions
• Use smart cooling (ice towels, cold‑water immersion)
• Support fluids, electrolytes and nutrition
• Hold accredited life-support training to recognise and treat life-threatening conditions, including exertional heat stroke and severe heat exhaustion

This World Cup adds three‑minute hydration breaks in each half, which is a positive move for player welfare. With a hot UK summer predicted, preparation matters, and this is where Sports Therapists can provide support.

Did you know that dehydration symptoms overlap with concussion symptoms? It’s so important to take care of yourself in this heat. Stay hydrated!

Recent discussion following a suspected concussion incident during the Australia vs USA match in the FIFA Club World Cup has once again highlighted the challenges of recognising and assessing concussion in sport.

While elite sport continues to strengthen concussion protocols, the incident serves as an important reminder that concussions can occur at any level of participation and that player welfare must always come first.

Graduate sports therapists play a vital role in recognising the signs and symptoms of concussion, removing athletes from play when concussion is suspected, and supporting safe return-to-sport decisions.

Remember:
🧠 Headache, dizziness, confusion, memory difficulties, visual disturbances and balance problems can all be signs of a concussion.
🧠 Symptoms may not appear immediately.
🧠 If in doubt, sit them out.

The Society of Sports Therapists encourages all members to remain up to date with the latest concussion guidance and best practices to help protect athlete health and wellbeing:https://thesst.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Concussion-Further-Reading.pdf
