Its back to school time so we thought it was a good opportunity to think about road safety 🚘🚲🏃‍♀️

Whether your child walks / bikes themselves to school, walks with you or you go in the car or on the bus, they need to be aware of how to keep safe ⛑️

If you have a smaller child always encourage hand holding when walking near roads

We should all remember the Green Cross Code and Stop, Look and Listen before crossing the road

Be aware of the 20mph drop off zone around schools ⚠️🛻

Wherever possible when travelling by car try to park away from the main entrance and walk the final part of your journey so the road is less congested, meaning less hazards

Teach your child about safe crossings like zebra or pelican crossings and always cross with the lollipop person if possible

Remind children to also look for cyclists not just cars, if your child cycles to school make sure they have an appropriate helmet

In 2023 1,276 children aged 7 and under were killed or seriously injured whilst walking or cycling

These are the weaning sessions we have coming up in September

Lots of people are anxious around weaning time and specifically around allergies

These sessions are 45 minutes to an hour with time at the the end for some Q&A

As we near the end of the holidays and start thinking about heading back to school, lets look at some helmet safety, so we can enjoy the outdoors on wheels but protect our precious heads!

The minute your child goes on anything that has wheels and picks up some speed you should put a lid on it. Scooters, balance bikes, bikes, skateboards, skates ANYTHING…teaching them young will help to instil the rules for life

The rule for any children should be - if it has wheels & moves you put a lid on! No lid, no go!

Why risk it? Please protect heads - and not just theirs, yours too!

Here’s a quick checklist to make sure the helmet is actually doing its job:

Proper fit — snug, level, not wobbling

Correct positioning — two fingers above the eyebrows

Straps adjusted — V-shape around the ears, firm under the chin

No cracks — replace after any significant impact

Comfort matters — if they like it, they’ll wear it

Anyone have a pram to donate to Baby Basics Sheffield 🥰

Do you have a newborn suitable pram you could donate when we reopen on 1st Sept?

If you have one in full working order (brakes, harnesses etc) that we can safety check and pass onto one of the 21 families we have on our waiting list who's babies are already born, we would be extremely grateful.

⚠️Weaning Wednesday⚠️

We know from our classes that choking is a part of weaning that most parents are worried about

The best prevention is to teach your little one to sit when they are eating - lead by example - sit with them even if its not your mealtime. Make it a rule to sit and have quiet time when eating so they give attention to learning all the important reflexes and skills for eating safely 🍎🍓🥦🥕

Teach them to sit and chew or no food for you…

I have been at Baby Sensory Rotherham this morning and had such a lovely time I forgot to take any photos so I've used an old one 😊

We had a family of four generations 😱 baby boy, mum, nanan and great nan which was so lovely and how amazing to support a new mum like that 🥰

We had a group of mum friends and a lovely expectant mum 🤰

We always have such a variety of people who join us and I end up talking too much when people are happy to share their experiences. Thank you to all of you for joining us, it was, as always a pleasure ❤️💙
