Is anyone else finding the summer holidays a little... overwhelming? 💚
I love the slower mornings, days out and making memories with my son.
But if I'm honest, as a working mum, I also know how quickly the holidays can become a juggling act.
As a therapist, I know there's a reason many of us feel more overwhelmed at this time of year.
Our routines give us a sense of predictability and reduce the mental load of everyday life. During the holidays we're constantly adapting, planning and responding to everyone else's needs.
Even when we're enjoying ourselves, it can leave us feeling mentally and emotionally exhausted.
And then comes the guilt...
The guilt that we're not doing enough.
Not making enough memories.
Not enjoying every moment because we know how quickly childhood passes.
But perhaps our children don't need perfect holidays.
They need a parent who feels good enough.
One who is present more often than they're distracted.
One who laughs with them, even if dinner is beans on toast.
One who lets go of the pressure to make every day magical.
So if today feels a little chaotic, this is your reminder that good enough really is enough.
Be kind to yourself.
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give our children isn't a perfect summer... it's a parent who knows they're already enough.
You're probably doing a much better job than you think. 🤍
What makes you feel grounded during the school holidays? I'd love to hear 🙏
