The summer holidays are the perfect time to book your child's free NHS eye test👓☀️

Even if your child isn't complaining about their vision, an annual eye test should still be part of their routine. Children don't always realise when their vision has changed so regular checks help us spot any changes early and keep their eyes healthy as they grow.

The visual field test might seem a bit like a computer game but what does it actually do? 👁️

This test checks your field of vision, both your central and peripheral (side) vision, by measuring how well you can see without moving your eyes. As tiny lights appear in different areas, pressing the button tells us which ones you can see and which you can’t. The results create a detailed map of your vision, helping us identify any areas where sensitivity may be reduced.

It’s an important test for detecting and monitoring conditions such as glaucoma, as well as other problems affecting the retina, optic nerve or visual pathways🙌🏼

Did you know glaucoma can steal your sight without you even noticing?

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible vision loss worldwide and is caused by a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve due to increased eye pressure. Often called the ‘silent thief of sight,’ glaucoma usually has no noticeable symptoms in its early stages.

Although certain people are at higher risk, such as adults over 40, those with a family history and individuals of African or Caribbean heritage, glaucoma can affect ANYONE, which is why regular eye tests(every two years) are so important 🙌🏼
