🩸👣 Why Is Foot Care So Important If You Have Diabetes? 👣🩸

If you have diabetes, looking after your feet is an essential part of maintaining your overall health.

Diabetes can affect the feet in several ways, including reducing circulation and damaging the nerves. This means you may not always feel pain, cuts, blisters, or pressure areas, allowing small problems to develop into more serious ones if they’re left untreated.

Regular foot care can help to:

✅ Keep nails safely trimmed.
✅ Reduce hard skin and callus build-up.
✅ Spot changes or potential problems early.
✅ Lower the risk of pressure sores and skin breakdown.
✅ Help keep your feet healthy and comfortable.

👣 Did you know?
Many people with diabetes lose some sensation in their feet over time, making it harder to notice injuries. That’s why checking your feet every day and having regular professional foot care is so important.

💜 As a Foot Health Practitioner, I can provide routine foot care, monitor the condition of your feet, and let you know if I notice anything that should be assessed by your GP, diabetes team, or podiatry service.

Looking after your feet today can help prevent problems tomorrow.

If you have diabetes and you’re unsure how often you should have your feet checked, I’m happy to discuss a care plan that’s right for you.

👣 Healthy feet are an important part of living well with diabetes.

Why Do I Wear a Mask During Your Foot Care Appointment? 👣

You may notice that I wear a mask during some parts of your treatment, particularly when reducing thickened nails or hard skin. It’s not because I’m unwell—it’s an important part of protecting both you and me.

During treatment, tiny particles of nail and skin dust can become airborne. This dust may contain keratin, bacteria or fungal spores, particularly if a fungal nail infection is present. Breathing in these fine particles repeatedly over time can irritate the airways and may pose a health risk to foot health professionals.

That’s why I wear appropriate PPE, including a mask when needed.

Along with wearing gloves and other protective equipment, I also follow strict infection prevention procedures by:

🧤 Wearing fresh PPE for each appointment where appropriate.
🫧 Thoroughly cleaning all reusable instruments.
🌊 Using an ultrasonic cleaner to remove debris from hard-to-reach areas.
🌡️ Sterilising instruments in an autoclave before they are used again.

These measures help reduce the risk of cross-contamination, protect my health, and ensure every client receives treatment using clean, sterile instruments.

Providing safe, professional, and hygienic foot care in the comfort of your home is always my priority.

💜 Your safety.
💜 My safety.
💜 The highest standards of infection control.

👣 How Often Should You Have Foot Care Treatment? 👣

One of the questions I’m asked most often is, “How often should I have my feet treated?”

For most people, every 6 weeks is the ideal time between routine foot care appointments.

Why 6 weeks?

✅ Prevents hard skin and calluses from becoming painful.
✅ Keeps nails trimmed and comfortable.
✅ Reduces the risk of ingrown toenails.
✅ Allows any developing foot problems to be spotted early.
✅ Helps keep your feet healthy, comfortable, and pain-free all year round.

Of course, everyone is different. Some people may need appointments more frequently, while others can comfortably wait a little longer. Factors such as diabetes, poor circulation, mobility, thickened nails, and how quickly your nails grow can all affect how often treatment is needed.

Regular foot care isn’t just about treating problems—it’s about preventing them before they become painful.

If you’re unsure how often you should be seen, I’ll be happy to recommend a treatment schedule that’s tailored to your individual needs.

💜 Healthy feet mean a happier, more comfortable you.

📅 Most clients book their next appointment before I leave, making it easy to stay on track with their foot health.

✨ Behind the Scenes at Lauren’s Footcare Clinic ✨

When your appointment is over, my work isn’t!

Every evening, all reusable instruments go through a strict decontamination process to ensure they are safe and ready for the next client.

👣 Step 1: Thoroughly cleaned to remove any debris.
🫧 Step 2: Placed in an ultrasonic cleaner, which uses high-frequency sound waves to clean even the smallest areas of each instrument.
🧼 Step 3: Carefully dried, inspected and packaged.
🌡️ Step 4: Sterilised in my autoclave, using high-pressure steam to eliminate bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms.

Providing safe, hygienic, and professional foot care is my top priority, giving you complete peace of mind at every appointment.

Your feet deserve the very best care – and that starts long before I arrive at your door. 💜👣

💙🚴‍♀️🚶‍♂️ Ella & Theo are taking on 31 Miles in August for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity! 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️💙

This August, Ella and Theo are challenging themselves to walk and cycle a total of 31 miles to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

Every mile they complete will help support an incredible cause. Birmingham Children’s Hospital cares for some of the sickest children in the UK, and the charity provides the vital funding needed to make a real difference for patients and their families.

Thanks to donations, they can:
💙 Support life-changing research into childhood illnesses.
🏥 Help make the hospital feel more like home for children and their families.
✨ Fund innovative treatments and equipment that give children the very best care.

No donation is too small, and every pound will help motivate Ella and Theo as they take on their challenge throughout August.

If you’re able to support them, we’d be so grateful. Please donate if you can and share this post to help us spread the word.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support! 💙
