โ๏ธ Beat the Heat: Keep Our Seniors Hydrated! โ๏ธ
With the temperatures rising, staying hydrated isn't just importantโitโs vital, especially for our older family members, neighbors, and friends.
As we age, our bodies naturally lose some of their ability to notice thirst. By the time an elderly loved one actually feels thirsty, they might already be dehydrated.
Here are a few quick tips to help the seniors in your life stay safe and cool:
๐ง Don't wait for thirst: Encourage them to sip water throughout the day, even if they say they aren't thirsty. Keep a glass or bottle within easy reach.
๐ Eat your water: Foods like watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, and tomatoes are packed with water and make great, refreshing snacks.
โ Limit the dehydrators: Try to scale back on drinks that can dry you out, like heavy coffee, alcohol, and sugary sodas.
๐ Pick the right times: Remind them to avoid outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day (usually between 11 AM and 3 PM).
๐ก Quick Check: Dark urine or sudden confusion/fatigue can be signs of dehydration. If you notice these, grab a glass of water right away!
Let's look out for one another. Take a moment today to check in on an elderly neighbor or relative and make sure theyโve got a cold drink in hand! ๐ฅค๐
