🌟 Weekly Activity Highlights @ Heron House Residential Care Home - Taunton 🌟
A week filled with creativity, celebrations, outings, friendly competition, reminiscence and plenty of laughter! ❤️
🍲 A taste of Scotland! At Eric’s request, we enjoyed making Cullen Skink — a delicious creamy soup with smoked haddock, potatoes and onions. We learnt all about its origins in the fishing town of Cullen and everyone enjoyed getting involved in bringing this traditional dish together!
🐦 Caring for our feathered friends — we got creative making bird feeders ready for the changing season. A lovely activity for developing dexterity and hand-eye coordination, while also showing some love for the wildlife around us. We also finished with an energetic Awake & Shake session! 🎶
🎂 Happy Birthday Jean! 🎉 We had a wonderful day celebrating our lovely Jean, including another special decorated cake by Claire, inspired by Jean’s former profession as a dentist. 🦷
☕ Double the fun at Golf at Oake Manor - we enjoyed a morning outing for coffee, conversation and plenty of smiles then we went back in the afternoon to enjoy the same again with some more of our wonderful residents! 😊
🎯 The Curling Showdown continues! Reds vs Blues 🟥🟦 with The Blues taking another fantastic victory 17–7! 💙 Well done to everyone who took part and to our ‘Players of the Match’ Vi for The Blues and Sylvia for The Reds! 🏆
🧀🍷 Cheese and Wine Evening! We enjoyed a relaxed social evening sampling and rating six different wines, with everyone encouraged to take part at their own pace. The wine may not have been a favourite for everyone, but the cheese, crackers and chutneys were definitely a hit! It was a lovely opportunity to make choices, share opinions and enjoy plenty of conversation, laughter and companionship.
🧺 A trip down memory lane — our reminiscence session brought lots of wonderful memories to life. We placed items from the 1930s–1950s into a pillowcase for everyone to feel and guess without looking. The activity sparked fascinating conversations about times gone by, including David’s beautiful memory of coming home from school to find his Mum’s dressmaking fabric spread across the lounge floor, with patterns carefully pinned in place ready to be cut out ❤️ We love hearing these stories and discovering the memories that perhaps haven’t been spoken about for many years. Every story tells us a little more about the person sitting beside us, and we feel very privileged to be able to listen, laugh, reminisce and share those memories together.
