A question that often gets asked is how often should my horse (or dog) receive physiotherapy sessions ?

The honest answer is that it depends on your horses individual needs and goals, but below are some general guidelines.

Initially treatment may be once a week to support healing, restore movement and guide a safe return to work. As your horse progresses , treatments are usually spaced further apart.

Young horses- As horses develop, their bodies change rapidly. a physiotherapy assessment every 12 weeks can help identify areas of tension, monitor musculoskeletal development and support them as they start and progress training.

Competition horses- depending on workload and competition schedules, many horses benefit from treatment every 4-8 weeks to maintain comfort , optimise performance and address any issues before they become injuries.

Leisure horses- Even horses in lighter work can benefit from routine checks every 3-6 months, in particular as they age or if they have a history of musculoskeletal issues.

Older horses- Older horses can benefit from more regular physiotherapy to help manage stiffness, maintain mobility and keep them comfortable through this stage of life.

Physiotherapy isn't just about treating injuries, it's about helping your horse move well, perform at their best and remain comfortable. 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
