πŸ“’ We Need Your Feedback – Continuity of Care at Tavyside Health Centre

At Tavyside Health Centre, we are always looking for ways to improve the care we provide. Following this year's NHS GP Patient Survey, we are carrying out a short anonymous survey to better understand what Continuity of Care means to our patients.

Continuity of Care is about seeing or speaking to the healthcare professional who knows you best, where appropriate, and ensuring your care is joined up and consistent.

We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete our survey and share your views. Your feedback will help us understand what is important to our patients and shape how we develop our services in the future.

βœ… Completely anonymous
βœ… Takes just a few minutes to complete
βœ… Open to all registered patients

Measuring your waist can help you understand more about your health πŸ’™

This video explains how to measure your waist so you can calculate your waist-to-height ratio πŸ“

Your waist-to-height ratio is another way to check whether you may be carrying too much weight around your tummy, alongside your Body Mass Index (BMI). Carrying excess weight around your middle can increase your risk of conditions such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and heart disease ⚠️

It only takes a few minutes to check and can help you make informed decisions about your health and wellbeing πŸ‘

Did you know that people of African, Caribbean or South Asian heritage are more likely to develop high blood pressure? πŸ’™

High blood pressure (hypertension) often has no symptoms, which is why it’s sometimes called a β€œsilent” condition ⚠️

If left untreated, it can increase the risk of serious health problems such as heart attacks, strokes and kidney disease ❀️

Research shows that people from African, Caribbean and South Asian backgrounds may have a higher risk of developing high blood pressure, so regular blood pressure checks are especially important πŸ‘

Simple lifestyle changes can help lower your blood pressure and improve your overall health, including:
β€’ eating a healthy balanced diet
β€’ reducing salt intake
β€’ staying active
β€’ maintaining a healthy weight
β€’ cutting down on alcohol 🚢

Checking your blood pressure regularly can help spot problems early and help you get the right support if needed πŸ’«

Speak to your GP practice or pharmacist if you would like a blood pressure check or advice πŸ’™

Summer is here – are you ready? β˜€οΈ

Warmer weather can bring a range of common health issues, from sunburn and hay fever to insect bites and travel sickness 🌍

Simple steps can help you stay safe and well this summer πŸ‘

β˜€οΈ Protect your skin by:
β€’ using sunscreen with at least SPF 30
β€’ reapplying regularly
β€’ spending time in the shade during the hottest part of the day
β€’ wearing suitable clothing and sunglasses 😎

Even on cloudy days, UV rays can still damage your skin, so sun protection is important throughout the summer months πŸ’™

If you need advice on managing summer symptoms such as hay fever, insect bites, stings or travel sickness, your pharmacist can help πŸ’Š

Stay safe, stay well and enjoy your summer 🌴

Antibiotics are powerful medicines – but they don’t work for everything πŸ’Š

Antibiotic resistance happens when bacteria change and become resistant to the antibiotics used to treat them. This means infections can become harder to treat, last longer, and in some cases become more serious ⚠️

One of the biggest causes of antibiotic resistance is using antibiotics when they aren’t needed, such as for colds and flu, which are caused by viruses – not bacteria ❌

To help keep antibiotics working:
β€’ Only take them if prescribed by a healthcare professional
β€’ Always complete the full course
β€’ Never share antibiotics or use leftovers

Antibiotic resistance is a growing global health concern, and we all have a role to play in protecting these important medicines for the future 🌍

Amber alert

The UK Health Security Agency today issued a heat-health alert for the South West, West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber regions.

The alert is currently in place from Monday 17 June to Friday 21 June, and if current forecasted temperatures are reached it is likely that there will be significant impacts across the health and social care sector.

These impacts include an increase in severe impact to health across the population, particularly in those aged over 65 or those with pre-existing health conditions, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, an increasing demand for remote health
care services and an impact on the ability of services delivered due to heat effects on the work force.

Check in with anyone you think might be at risk and see if they need help.
