A big thank you to everybody who made our Seaside Garden Party such an enjoyable afternoon!

With an authentic Punch & Judy Show, pony rides, pony visits to every room indoors, sandpit, paddling pool & water fountain, lawn games, freshly made candyfloss & popcorn, ice-creams and even a wandering magician, there was something for everybody in our wonderful Maples Family 🥰

Silent Disco - two words that wouldn't usually be seen together in a sentence, but WOW; what a fabulous concept!!

Smiles, laughter and even a few dance moves abounded throughout the home, as we listened to some much-loved songs from the past - some by request with personal shout-outs from the DJ.

Music has such a special way of unlocking memories. A familiar tune can bring back feelings, moments and stories from years gone by, sometimes sparking a smile or a little sing-along without a single word being said

It was beautiful to see our residents enjoying the music, connecting with memories and simply having fun together - all whilst the people around them were cheerfully oblivious (mostly!).

These moments remind us that whilst our minds may not be as sharp as they were in our younger years, the emotions and memories connected to music can remain incredibly powerful. 🎧🎵💃🕺

Good afternoon!

We'd like to invite you to our Seaside-themed Garden Party, commencing at 2pm next Friday the 14th August.

Family-friendly entertainment will include a traditional Punch & Judy show, Pony-Rides (for small children) & a Magician. Ponies will also visit people in their rooms, as they always do when they come to see us.

Refreshments will include freshly made Candy Floss & Popcorn, which will also be served to the people who remain indoors, as well as cold & hot beverages.

We will be asking for voluntary contributions from visitors for refreshments - donations will be passed on to Cuan Wildlife Centre, who kindly rehomed our lovely ducks, by request of the Residents' Events & Activities Committee. This also applies to the proceeds of the Prize Raffle.

We look forward to seeing you then!

We'd like to thank Ava & Julia from Northeast Producers travelling Theatre Company for their evocative performance of their show "Memories are Made of This".

It was really helpful to have the lyrics to the songs, so that we could all join in as they sang their way through 'oldies' by Judy Garland, Doris Day and others from the musicals of that era.

These were interwoven in a narrative about one of the girl's fictional parents - bringing to life memories of not just music, but habits, hobbies & pastimes of the 50s & 60s - which were a source for animated discussion amongst some of the audience members over Dinner afterwards.

As they said in their publicity material - "It takes one song to spark a memory"! 🥰

We have been very industrious!

A number of the multi-talented people who live at The Maples are busily preparing various produce ready for our first 'Maples Marketplace', which we'll be holding on the afternoon of Wednesday 26th August (more details to follow soon).

Here they are in the early stages of making lavender bags and also creating our first batch of "Nanny Janet's Courgette Chutney"! The family recipe for the chutney has been gifted to us by Janet's daughters - Janet lives on our first household - along with a very generous donation of courgettes from their family allotment, which were gratefully received & duly chopped into tiny bits by our team!

Memories of learning traditional skills from our own parents & grand-parents were shared around the table, as we worked together to chop, crush, weigh, mix and prepare the spices & vegetables for cooking - such a wealth of experience was assembled around that table!

We're very much looking forward to expanding our repertoire - damson jam is next on the list, followed by other jams, pickles and chutneys over the next few weeks.

A wonderful time was had by all at our Coffee Afternoon last Friday.

A huge thank you to The Severn Valley Stompers who brought their smooth sounds to soothe our souls, as we enjoyed refreshments & chat with friends & family - the perfect end to everybody's week!
