๐ŸŒฟ Trauma and Grief: Two Different Experiences That Can Feel Deeply Connected ๐Ÿ’™

Trauma and grief can have a profound impact on the way we think, feel and experience the world. While they are different, they often overlap, and both deserve to be met with compassion rather than judgement.

Grief isnโ€™t limited to the loss of a loved one. We can also grieve:
๐Ÿ’™ The end of a relationship
๐Ÿ’™ The life we thought weโ€™d have
๐Ÿ’™ Lost opportunities
๐Ÿ’™ Changes to our health
๐Ÿ’™ Childhood experiences we never had
๐Ÿ’™ A sense of safety or identity

Trauma can develop after a single distressing event or through repeated experiences over time, such as abuse, neglect, domestic violence, bullying, or growing up in an environment where your emotional needs werenโ€™t consistently met.

The effects of trauma and grief can include:
๐ŸŒฟ Anxiety or panic
๐ŸŒฟ Feeling emotionally numb or overwhelmed
๐ŸŒฟ Difficulty trusting others
๐ŸŒฟ Flashbacks or intrusive memories
๐ŸŒฟ Changes in sleep or appetite
๐ŸŒฟ Guilt, shame or self-blame
๐ŸŒฟ Feeling disconnected from yourself or others

Healing doesnโ€™t mean forgetting what happened or โ€œgetting over it.โ€ It means learning to carry your experiences in a way that no longer feels so overwhelming, while rediscovering your strengths, rebuilding hope and finding meaning again.

As a trauma-informed counsellor, I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace. Together, we can work towards understanding your story, processing difficult emotions and helping you move forward with greater self-compassion and resilience.

You donโ€™t have to carry it all on your own. ๐Ÿ’™

Children and young people donโ€™t always have the words to explain what theyโ€™re feeling. Instead, their emotions may show up through behaviour, anxiety, withdrawal, anger, low self-esteem, difficulties at school, or changes in relationships. ๐ŸŒฑ

Alongside my trauma-informed counselling practice, I also hold a Level 4 Diploma in Working with Children and Young People, enabling me to tailor my approach to meet the developmental and emotional needs of younger clients.

I can support children and young people with:

๐ŸŒฟ Anxiety and excessive worry
๐ŸŒฟ Low self-esteem and confidence
๐ŸŒฟ Emotional regulation
๐ŸŒฟ Trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)
๐ŸŒฟ Grief and bereavement
๐ŸŒฟ Bullying and friendship difficulties
๐ŸŒฟ Family changes, separation or conflict
๐ŸŒฟ Identity and self-discovery
๐ŸŒฟ School-related stress and exam anxiety
๐ŸŒฟ Building resilience and healthy coping strategies

I also work with neurodivergent children and young people, including those with ADHD and autism. Every child experiences the world differently, so therapy is adapted to suit their individual way of thinking, communicating and processing emotions.

My aim is to create a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment where young people can:

๐Ÿ’™ Feel heard and understood.
๐Ÿ’™ Make sense of difficult emotions.
๐Ÿ’™ Develop confidence in who they are.
๐Ÿ’™ Learn healthy ways to manage challenges.
๐Ÿ’™ Build emotional resilience that supports them into adulthood.

I believe every child deserves a space where they can be themselves without fear of judgement. By building a trusting therapeutic relationship, we can help them understand their experiences, recognise their strengths, and develop the tools they need to thrive.

If youโ€™d like to learn more about how I work with children and young people, or youโ€™re looking for support for a young person in your life, please feel free to get in touch.

Ciao/hello, welcome to my counselling page! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

My aim is to help and support clients through various presenting issues by sensitively working towards goals within their counselling journey. The thought of counselling can be daunting to anybody; however, offering a safe and confidential space for clients to explore themselves without judgement creates positive steps needed to move forward in a healthy direction.

Through my personal experiences and professional journey, I understand the value of finding a professional who can provide an understanding and insightful perspective of your situation - to be seen and heard for who you are creates a strong foundation of trust and safety whilst opening up about sensitive information. Along side talking therapy, I offer โ€˜psychoeducationโ€™, meaning the client gains valuable information of their emotional, behavioural, and thought processes from experiences they may have endured; learning about how and why the way we function makes us feel more normal and paves a way of us learning to accept ourselves.

Reaching out to a therapist can be the biggest and bravest step when you want professional help - I am here to support you. If you wish to have a 10-minute telephone discussion about what type of therapy I offer and what the therapy entails, please WhatsApp or email to arrange an appointment - I shall get back to you as soon as I can.
