What a brilliant morning learning all things lottery funding! Great to meet Laura Wise and Catherine McCloy from The National Lottery Community Fund and hear about the application process straight from the source. It makes such a difference hearing it from two lovely people who genuinely care about supporting our region.

Thank you also to Duncan Spilsbury and Kelly Walker for sharing the fantastic support available to help organisations get lottery-ready and, more widely, grant- and fundraising-ready. We're very lucky to have Community Resource.

It was a real treat to visit The Anstice. A beautiful building and a really lovely example of what happens when a community comes together. Loved hearing from June Campbell, Secretary, who shared the story of the building, how National Lottery funding supported it and why it's ok when things don't go to plan – especially when your chairs turn out not to be old enough to count as antiques!

Thank you to all the organisers!

A Better Tomorrow is a peer-led organisation supporting people affected by drug or alcohol addiction, mental health challenges, homelessness and domestic abuse. We provide safe, supportive environments where people can rebuild stability, confidence and independence.

Our housing services cover drug and alcohol recovery, domestic abuse, mental health and early intervention.

Alongside this, we offer one-to-one support, structured recovery programmes, wellbeing activities, volunteering, and pathways into training and employment, delivering 140+ hours of activities every month.

What makes us different is that many of our staff and volunteers have lived experience themselves. We know recovery is possible because we've walked that path too. 💜

💜 We are so grateful to Housing Plus Group for their incredibly generous £2,000 donation to our Welcome Pack appeal.

Our welcome packs are filled with the everyday essentials that help someone feel human again after a crisis. As Scott Morgan (our CEO) says, the items inside say: "You are safe, you are valued, and this is the beginning of something new."

A huge thank you to the whole team at Housing Group Plus, which will enable us to be ready to welcome hundreds of new people to A Better Tomorrow.

Can you give someone a warm welcome as they begin their recovery journey?

Please stop condemning the past versions of you. They were doing their best at the time, and they got you here. It's remarkable how much progress you've made and how much you've grown, but please don't think your past self lacked value in any way.

You're judging who you used to be through the lens of who you are now. And every time you do, you're dismissing the person who kept you alive. The version of you that made the best decisions she could with the information and resources she had. The version that survived what broke others.

They were doing their best at the time, and they got you here. Stop acting like your past self was weak or stupid or broken in ways that matter now. She did what she had to do. She made the choices that enabled your survival. She learned the hard way so current you could know better. Don't diminish that. It's remarkable how much you've grown, but your past self doesn't lack value because of that growth. She's the reason you're growing at all.
