A little flashback to paddle boarding on the Welsh coast last month. The sea for me is where I feel most connected with nature.

Chinese medicine views us as at one with nature, woven into it.

Our bodies respond to light and dark, warmth and cold, activity and rest. We move through cycles too. We grow, change, need nourishment, need rest, and sometimes need to let things go.

I love this idea because it feels like such a contrast to the way we’re often encouraged to live, constantly switched on, constantly consuming, constantly trying to keep up.

Nature doesn’t really work like that.

Late summer feels like a lovely reminder of this. Things are still full and abundant, but there’s also a subtle sense of change beginning.

So perhaps this season is an invitation to spend a little more time outside, put the phone down, and notice what it feels like to actually inhabit your body and your surroundings.

Not as another thing to achieve.

Just as a way of remembering that we’re part of something bigger than the little screen in our hands.

Have you been feeling more tired than usual lately? Perhaps your digestion feels sluggish, you're craving sweet foods, or your mind seems to be constantly overthinking.

In Five Element Acupuncture, we're approaching Late Summer, the season of the Earth element. This is a time of transition, when nature begins to slow down before autumn.

The Earth element is associated with the Spleen and Stomach, which in Chinese Medicine are responsible for transforming food into energy, nourishing the body and supporting emotional balance.

When the Earth element is out of balance, you may experience bloating, low energy, brain fog, sugar cravings, digestive discomfort or excessive worry.

Late Summer reminds us to slow down, nourish ourselves and live in harmony with the changing season.

Acupuncture can help support your body through this transition by improving digestion, boosting energy, calming the mind and restoring balance.

If you've been feeling "not quite yourself" lately, now could be the perfect time to give your body the support it needs.

To book an acupuncture appointment with me head to the link in the bio.

🧬 I’ve been geeking out about the human body lately…

I’ve been listening to some fascinating podcasts with doctors, scientists, and researchers exploring health, ageing, disease, and the incredible complexity of the human body.

Having studied Microbial Science as my first degree (starting in 1997 and graduating in 2000), I’ve always been fascinated by what happens beneath the surface, the tiny processes that keep us alive, adapt, and heal.

Recently, I’ve been diving into the world of mitochondria, the “powerhouses” of our cells, and learning more about their role in energy, inflammation, ageing, metabolism, and disease.

What fascinates me is how these emerging scientific discoveries create interesting conversations with Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture.

While mitochondria and Qi are not the same thing, both perspectives recognise the importance of energy, balance, communication, and resilience within the body.

As an acupuncturist working with people across Shrewsbury, Market Drayton, and Shropshire, I love exploring the connection between ancient wisdom and modern science.

The more we learn about the human body, the more incredible it becomes. 🧬✨

The Song Remains ❤️
A wellbeing evening in aid of Alzheimer’s Society

As November invites us to slow down, we are creating a special evening of rest, relaxation and restoration.

The Song Remains is inspired by the idea that even when memories fade, connection, music and love can remain. This feels especially meaningful as so many of us have been touched by Alzheimer’s through our own experiences with loved ones.

Bringing together the beautiful practices of Yin Yoga, group acupuncture and sound, this evening offers a chance to pause, reconnect and create space for calm and healing.

Join us on Saturday 21 November, 5.30pm to 8.30pm for an evening featuring:

• Gentle Yin Yoga with Jo from Breathe and Bloom
• A deeply relaxing group acupuncture session with Julia from Green Rose Acupuncture
• A restorative sound bath with Liv from Lunar Holistic Therapies

Together, these therapies create a beautiful opportunity to unwind, recharge and prepare for the winter months, while raising money for a cause close to our hearts.

All proceeds from the evening will be donated to Alzheimer’s Society.

Come on your own or bring a friend. You’ll leave feeling calmer, grounded and restored.

Attending acupuncture for the first time can be really scary. People are often surprised to learn that I’m also scared of needles when it comes to my own health and treatment. Having this fear myself allows me to fully comprehend what a big deal it is going for acupuncture when you have that needle phobia and I work hard to put you at ease. Quickly though the needles begin to work their magic and the nervous system relaxes. It’s truly a special branch of medicine.

If you’re thinking of taking that first step but feeling a little worried don’t hesitate to reach out and be rest assured I’ll talk you through each step of the session and you’ll leave feeling calm and relaxed.

Supporting your fertility journey with acupuncture

Fertility can be an emotional journey, whether you are trying naturally, preparing for assisted fertility treatment, or navigating IVF.

This area of treatment is particularly close to my heart. Having experienced assisted fertility myself, I understand the mix of hope, uncertainty and waiting that can come with trying to conceive. I know how important it is to feel listened to, supported and cared for during this time.

Acupuncture may help support your fertility journey by encouraging relaxation, supporting emotional wellbeing and helping you feel more balanced, alongside your own approach to conception or medical fertility treatment.

Research into acupuncture and fertility continues to develop. Some studies suggest it may be a helpful supportive therapy alongside IVF, particularly for wellbeing and reducing stress, although more research is still needed.

Every fertility journey is unique, and my approach is always personalised to you.

If you would like to explore how acupuncture could support you, I offer fertility consultations at Green Rose Acupuncture in Shrewsbury.

Life transitions can place real demands on our emotional and physical wellbeing.

Acupuncture is increasingly used alongside conventional care to support relaxation and help regulate the body’s stress response. Research suggests it may influence the nervous system and promote a shift towards a more rested, restorative state.

At Green Rose Acupuncture, treatments are tailored to the individual. Many people choose acupuncture during times of change, such as periods of stress, emotional overwhelm, or life uncertainty, as part of a wider approach to supporting wellbeing.

Appointments provide space to pause, reset, and support the body’s natural ability to rebalance.

If you’re curious about whether acupuncture might be right for you, you’re welcome to get in touch or explore more on the website.
