🦋 Big Butterfly Count 2026: Key Results

This year, employees from Ricoh UK Products Ltd (RPL) and Ricoh Printing Solutions Europe Ltd (RPSE) contributed to the UK’s annual Big Butterfly Count (Butterfly Conservation), a nationwide citizen science survey that helps assess the health of our environment.

👥 23 employees took part
✍🏻 4 survey sessions were held across the Telford site
🦋 238 butterflies and moths were recorded locally
🕛 9.75 hours of voluntary CSR activity were contributed
🥇 Gatekeeper was the most-recorded species, with 47 sightings
📊 Four of our top five species also appeared in the UK’s national top five for 2026

By taking part, colleagues helped contribute useful biodiversity data while supporting RPL’s ongoing environmental monitoring and ‘ESG Leadership’ commitments.

🦋 Every count contributes to the bigger picture for biodiversity.

This summer, 23 colleagues from Ricoh UK Products Ltd (RPL) and Ricoh Printing Solutions Europe Ltd (RPSE) joined thousands of citizen scientists across the UK to take part in the Big Butterfly, organised by Butterfly Conservation.

Led by the Biodiversity team, four survey sessions across our Telford site recorded 238 butterflies and moths, with the Gatekeeper taking the top spot locally with 47 sightings.

The results also reflected the national picture, with four of our five most-recorded species appearing in the UK’s top five for 2026.

Taking part is one of the ways RPL continues to monitor, understand and support biodiversity across its 50+ acre site, while contributing valuable data to wider conservation research and our broader ‘ESG Leadership’ commitments.

At Ricoh UK Products Ltd (RPL), our new energy management platform in partnership with SolarEdge Technologies Inc. is providing real-time visibility of energy use across our Telford manufacturing site, helping identify inefficiencies, respond more quickly to equipment issues, and make informed decisions that reduce both energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.

Already, the platform has helped uncover opportunities including:
✅ £4,000 saved by eliminating unnecessary weekend heating
✅ £10,000 annual savings through optimising chiller equipment
✅ Improved monitoring across electricity, gas, water, solar PV and EV charging infrastructure from a single platform

It's another step forward in supporting RPL's net-zero 2030 ambition through smarter, data-driven energy management.

🎉 From workplace innovation to double award success!

We're incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Marc Green, Engineer (Toner Engineering), who has completed his BEng Mechanical Engineering degree with First-Class Honours and received two prestigious awards from the University of Wolverhampton.

From a cohort of 57 students, Marc was awarded the FBC Manby Bowdler Prize for achieving the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) in Mechanical Engineering, attaining an impressive 86% average, alongside the Lenovo Prize for achieving the highest mark in his final year project.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that Marc completed his studies whilst balancing a full-time role at Ricoh UK Products Ltd (RPL). His award-winning dissertation focused on improving an ID Tag station used within our toner cartridge filling operation, delivering practical enhancements that increased Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and provided real benefits to our manufacturing processes.

🎉 From A-Levels to global recognition!

We're incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Daniel Hayward, Finance Apprentice, who has achieved joint 8th place in the world in the May 2026 CIMA Management Case Study examination.

Scoring an impressive 125 out of 150, Dan ranked amongst the highest-performing candidates worldwide, competing against thousands of finance professionals from across the globe. An exceptional accomplishment and a true testament to his hard work, dedication and commitment to continuous learning.

Wildlife Wednesday 🦋🦌📸

This week has been another fantastic one for wildlife at Ricoh UK Products Ltd (RPL) and Ricoh Printing Solutions Europe Ltd (RPSE)!

Today marked the third week of our employee engagement in the UK's Big Butterfly Count, supporting Butterfly Conservation's UK-wide survey.

It was great to see another fantastic turnout from colleagues, with plenty of beautiful butterflies spotted and some brilliant photographs captured (throughout the weeks). Every observation helps contribute to a better understanding of butterfly populations and the biodiversity around our site.

Our wildlife cameras have also been busy, with a recent capture of a resident deer making an appearance! It's always exciting to see what wildlife is thriving across our site, and we can't wait to discover and share even more of our amazing visitors with you over the coming weeks...

Wildlife Wednesday | Part 3 🦊

Matt's resident fox is back!

In the latest instalment of our Wildlife Wednesday series, Matt Surmacz, Building Services Facilities Engineer, captured this daytime footage of one of his regular four-legged visitors exploring his garden.

Moments during and after this clip ends, the fox wandered over for a well-earned drink of water — a timely reminder of just how important even the simplest resources become during periods of hot weather.

As temperatures remain high across the UK, wildlife can find it increasingly difficult to access fresh water. Whether it's leaving out a shallow bowl of clean water, creating a wildlife-friendly garden, or simply allowing nature to thrive in our green spaces, small actions can make a meaningful difference to the birds, mammals and insects that share our environment.

At Ricoh UK Products Ltd (RPL), we're fortunate to work on a site where biodiversity continues to flourish, and it's always a pleasure to witness these moments occurring (and being inspired) at our employees' homes too!

💚 Wellbeing Wednesday 💚

Last week, Andrew Benning, Assistant Manager – Health & Safety, and Kate Dovey, Senior HR Officer, represented Ricoh UK Products Ltd (RPL) at the Confederation of Paper Industries - CPI Biennial Health and Safety Conference, where they hosted a breakout session showcasing our wellbeing journey.

At RPL, employee wellbeing is a key priority and a central part of our foundational strategy. Our Wellbeing Charter sets out the Company's commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of employees, outlining the roles and responsibilities of key functions and specialists, as well as the resources available to help employees maintain and improve their wellbeing.

Andy and Kate shared our wellbeing journey with industry professionals, showcasing the initiatives that have helped shape our positive wellbeing culture. It provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss lessons learned, and reflect on our progress from the beginning of our journey.

With many organisations across the paper industry embarking on similar wellbeing initiatives, the event also enabled us to contribute to the wider conversation around creating healthier, more supportive workplaces for all.

It's that time again... This week, we're shining a spotlight on how Ricoh UK Products Ltd's (RPL) onsite wildlife cameras are inspiring our employees to discover the biodiversity around them.
