Have you been invited for an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening? It’s important to attend 💙

AAA screening is offered to men in England during the year they turn 65. The screening test looks for a swelling (aneurysm) in the aorta, the main blood vessel that carries blood from your heart to the rest of your body 🩺

An abdominal aortic aneurysm often causes no symptoms, which means many people don't know they have one. If an aneurysm grows and bursts, it can be life-threatening, which is why early detection is so important ⚠️

The screening itself is quick, painless and similar to an ultrasound scan. Most appointments take less than 10 minutes and can provide reassurance or help identify any problems early 👍

You'll usually only need to be screened once, unless an aneurysm is found and requires monitoring 👨‍⚕️

Reasonable Adjustment Flags

At School Lane Surgery, we want everyone to be able to access healthcare fairly.

Some people need a specific change to the usual way healthcare is provided because of a disability or long-term condition. This is called a reasonable adjustment.

A Reasonable Adjustment Flag is a secure national NHS record that helps authorised health and care staff understand a patient’s needs. Adjustments might include accessible information, communication support, wheelchair access, a quieter environment or support from a carer.

Over the coming weeks, we will be reviewing our records and may contact patients who we believe could benefit from a flag but do not currently have one. If we contact you, we will explain why and ask you to confirm what information should be recorded.

There is no need to contact us simply because you have a diagnosis, disability or long-term condition. Not everyone needs a flag, and many patients’ needs are already known and being met.

Please contact us only if you need a specific adjustment to access healthcare and believe it is not already recorded, or if your existing needs have changed.

An exciting day today… and no, I'm not talking about Harry and Meg moving back to the UK?!.....It’s GCSE Results Day! 🎉

We would like to wish all our young patients receiving their results today the very best of luck.

Whatever appears on that piece of paper, remember that your grades do not define you or determine everything that comes next. Be proud of the work you have put in, and if things have not gone quite as planned, take a breath. There are plenty of different routes forward and lots of support available.

Impetigo is a common and highly contagious skin infection that mainly affects babies and young children 👶💙

It usually starts with red sores or blisters that burst and leave crusty golden-brown patches on the skin. While impetigo is not usually serious, it can spread easily through close contact, towels, bedding and shared items ⚠️

If you think your child may have impetigo, help is available through the NHS Pharmacy First service. A pharmacist can assess symptoms and, where appropriate, provide treatment without the need for a GP appointment 💊

Signs of impetigo can include:
🔹 Red sores or blisters
🔹 Itchy patches of skin
🔹 Honey-coloured crusts forming over sores
🔹 Sores commonly around the nose, mouth, hands or body

To help prevent the spread:
🧼 Wash hands regularly
🧼 Avoid sharing towels, bedding or clothing
🧼 Keep affected areas clean
🧼 Follow treatment advice from your pharmacist

Screening is offered to different groups of people at different stages of life and can help detect conditions such as certain cancers, abdominal aortic aneurysms and other health concerns before they become more serious ⚠️

Most screening tests are quick, simple and free through the NHS 👍

Even if you feel well, it's important to attend when invited. Screening can provide reassurance or help identify problems early, when treatment is often more effective 💙

Temporary change to opening hours today - Friday 14th August 2026

Due to an unforeseen staffing shortage, our School Lane Surgery site will close at 17:30 today rather than the usual 6.30pm.

Our team will continue working as usual from the Healthy Living Centre, and patient services will remain available from there.

This is a one-off change to ensure we can continue to provide safe care with the staff available. School Lane Surgery will reopen as normal on Monday morning.

We apologise for this situation and thank you for your understanding.
