We were delighted to receive a cheque for £2,045 this morning from Dr Laura Longstaff and the amazing team at Thirsk Doctors Surgery from their Hoedown in the Hills on 25th April. Huge thanks for their hard work, support and to everyone who attended and made the event so successful!

We’ve been to Thirsk Auction Mart this morning to raise awareness around the bowel cancer screening programme among Thirsk’s farming population 🌾

Across the UK, screening is offered routinely using a home test kit called the faecal immunochemical test (FIT).

This test checks for tiny amounts of blood in a stool sample, which can be an early sign of bowel cancer or other conditions.

People receive the kit by post, complete it at home, and send it back to a laboratory for analysis. If blood is detected above a certain threshold, they are invited for further investigation, usually a colonoscopy.

• In England, screening is offered every 2 years to people aged 50-74.

• People over the upper age limit can usually request a kit if they wish.

Regular screening significantly reduces the risk of dying from bowel cancer.
