A little facial acupuncture moment ✨

I’ve been holding so much tension through my jaw and cheekbones lately, so I’m giving my face a little attention and release.

It’s amazing how much stress we can carry without even realising it. 🤍

Living with rheumatoid arthritis is about more than painful joints.
RA can also mean stiffness, swelling, fatigue, disturbed sleep and reduced movement — and symptoms can vary considerably from day to day.
Everyday things like getting dressed, opening a jar, driving or getting through a working day can suddenly become much harder.
And pain itself is complex. Inflammation, sleep, activity, stress and fatigue can all influence how pain is experienced.
That’s why managing persistent pain is about more than asking “Where does it hurt?” — it’s about understanding how it affects the whole person.

So, what actually is rheumatoid arthritis?
RA isn't simply “wear and tear” of the joints. It's an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the tissues lining the joints, causing inflammation.
This can lead to pain, swelling, stiffness and difficulty with movement — and symptoms can vary considerably from person to person.
It can also affect more than the joints, with fatigue being a significant symptom for many people.
Early diagnosis and appropriate medical treatment are important in controlling the disease and helping to prevent joint damage.
Tomorrow I'll be looking a little more closely at rheumatoid arthritis pain — and where medical acupuncture may fit alongside conventional treatment.

✨ MONDAY MYTH: Acupuncture is only for adults ✨

Not necessarily! Medical acupuncture isn’t one-size-fits-all. Treatment can be adapted depending on a person’s age, individual needs and clinical presentation.

For younger patients, where appropriate, this may mean a gentler approach, fewer needles, shorter treatment times, or techniques tailored specifically to the individual.

As with any treatment, suitability is assessed on an individual basis, with the approach adapted to make treatment as appropriate and comfortable as possible.

💬 Did you know medical acupuncture can be adapted for different ages?

Not all arthritis is the same.
This week I’m focusing on rheumatoid arthritis — a long-term autoimmune condition that can cause joint pain, swelling and stiffness, as well as fatigue and other symptoms.
Over the next few posts, I’ll be looking at rheumatoid arthritis, how it differs from other forms of arthritis, and where medical acupuncture may have a role in helping to manage some of the symptoms associated with persistent pain.
Medical acupuncture isn’t a replacement for rheumatoid arthritis medication or rheumatology care, but for some people it may be considered as part of a wider approach to symptom management.
And as September is Pain Awareness Month, it’s a good opportunity to talk about something I see regularly in clinic: pain is rarely as simple as “it hurts here.”
This week: rheumatoid arthritis, pain and where acupuncture may fit.

A little Sunday life outside the clinic 🍂🤎

Today’s therapy looks a little different… slow morning, autumn decorations going up, cosy corners and absolutely no rushing.

As much as I love my work and helping people feel better through medical acupuncture, I’m a big believer in the quieter things that help us reset too.

A chilled Sunday at home, making things feel a little more autumnal, is exactly what I needed. 🍁✨

Here’s your reminder that rest doesn’t always mean doing nothing — sometimes it’s simply slowing down and doing something that makes you feel good.

Hope you’re having a lovely Sunday 🤎

Pain in one area doesn’t always stay in one area.

When the Achilles has been painful, we often change the way we walk without even realising it — shortening a stride, shifting weight or loading the other structures differently.

Over time, that altered walking pattern can have a knock-on effect further up the leg, including the calf and knee.

In this treatment, I’m looking beyond the site of pain and considering the whole chain: Achilles → calf → walking pattern → knee.

Acupuncture is being used here as part of an individual treatment approach, alongside looking at how the leg is moving and loading.

Sometimes the question isn’t just “Where does it hurt?”
It’s “What has changed because it hurts?”

Feeling tight through your neck and shoulders? A few gentle stretches can help ease everyday tension and encourage more comfortable movement. 🌿

Try slowly:
✨ Tilting your ear toward each shoulder
✨ Turning your head gently from side to side
✨ Bringing your chin toward your chest
✨ Rolling your shoulders back and down

Move slowly, keep your breathing relaxed, and never force a stretch. Even a few minutes during the day can be a lovely way to reset after sitting, working, or spending time on your phone.

Your neck works hard for you — give it a little care today. 💛
