☀️ Hot Weather Reminder for Next Week ☀️

With the high temperatures forecast for next week, we’d like to ask all clients to please avoid arriving too early for appointments and not to leave dogs waiting in cars for extended periods before their session.

Although the dogs exercise in water, many will be arriving already warm from the weather. Our pool is maintained at a therapeutic temperature of 28–30°C, which means it is still a warm working environment for dogs exercising in the water.

To ensure the comfort and wellbeing of all our canine clients, some sessions may need to be reduced slightly depending on the individual dog and how they are coping with the heat.

Please make sure your dog has access to fresh water before travelling and let us know if you have any concerns ahead of your appointment.

🐾 We do still have some appointments available next week. If you’d like to book a hydrotherapy session for your dog, please give us a call or send us an email and we’ll be happy to help.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we help keep our dogs safe and comfortable during the warmer weather. 💙

🐾 Elbow Dysplasia & Hydrotherapy 🐾

Elbow dysplasia is a common orthopaedic condition that affects the elbow joint, particularly in growing medium and large breed dogs. It occurs when the bones and cartilage within the elbow joint do not develop correctly, leading to abnormal wear, inflammation, pain, and eventually arthritis.

Common symptoms of elbow dysplasia include:
🐕 Limping or lameness in the front legs
🐕 Stiffness after rest or exercise
🐕 Reluctance to run, jump, or play
🐕 Reduced range of motion in the elbow
🐕 Swelling around the joint
🐕 Difficulty getting up or lying down

While elbow dysplasia cannot always be cured, there are many ways to help manage the condition and improve your dog's quality of life.

💦 How Can Hydrotherapy Help?

Hydrotherapy is an excellent low-impact form of exercise for dogs with elbow dysplasia. The buoyancy of the water supports your dog's body weight, reducing stress on painful joints while allowing them to move more freely.

Benefits of hydrotherapy include:
✅ Improved muscle strength to better support the joints
✅ Increased range of motion and flexibility
✅ Reduced joint stiffness
✅ Improved cardiovascular fitness
✅ Pain relief through gentle, controlled movement
✅ Weight management, reducing strain on affected joints

Every hydrotherapy programme is tailored to the individual dog's needs, helping them stay active, comfortable, and confident despite their condition.

🐾 IVDD & Hydrotherapy 🐾

Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is a condition that affects the discs between the vertebrae of a dog's spine. These discs act as shock absorbers, but when they degenerate, bulge, or rupture, they can put pressure on the spinal cord and nerves, causing pain and mobility problems.

🚩 Common symptoms of IVDD include:
• Neck or back pain
• Reluctance to jump, climb stairs, or exercise
• Weakness in the legs
• Unsteady walking or wobbliness
• Dragging paws
• Difficulty standing or walking
• In severe cases, paralysis and loss of bladder or bowel control

Certain breeds such as Dachshunds, French Bulldogs, Cocker Spaniels, and Beagles can be more prone to developing IVDD, although any dog can be affected.

💦 How can hydrotherapy help?

Hydrotherapy is often recommended as part of a rehabilitation programme for dogs recovering from IVDD. The buoyancy of the water reduces pressure on the spine, allowing dogs to exercise more comfortably and safely.

Benefits of hydrotherapy for dogs with IVDD include:
✅ Improving muscle strength
✅ Supporting mobility and coordination
✅ Increasing range of motion
✅ Reducing pain and stiffness
✅ Building confidence during recovery
✅ Assisting post-surgical rehabilitation

Every dog is different, and hydrotherapy programmes are tailored to their individual needs and stage of recovery. Working alongside your vet and rehabilitation team, hydrotherapy can play an important role in helping your dog regain strength, mobility, and quality of life.

If you have any questions about whether hydrotherapy could help your dog, please get in touch – we're always happy to help. 🐶💙

🐾 Luxating Patella & Hydrotherapy 🐾

A luxating patella occurs when the kneecap (patella) slips out of its normal groove in the thigh bone. It is particularly common in small and toy breeds, although larger dogs can be affected too.

🔍 Common signs include:
• Intermittent limping or hopping
• Skipping steps during walks
• Holding a hind leg up briefly
• Difficulty jumping or climbing stairs
• Reduced activity levels
• Signs of discomfort or stiffness in the hind limbs

💦 How can hydrotherapy help?

Hydrotherapy is an excellent supportive treatment for dogs with luxating patella. The buoyancy of the water reduces stress on the joints while allowing dogs to exercise comfortably and safely.

Benefits of hydrotherapy include:
✅ Strengthening the muscles around the knee to improve joint stability
✅ Improving range of motion and flexibility
✅ Supporting weight management, reducing strain on the joints
✅ Building overall hind limb strength and coordination
✅ Providing low-impact exercise with reduced pain and discomfort

Whether your dog has been diagnosed with a mild luxating patella, is awaiting surgery, or is recovering post-operatively, a tailored hydrotherapy programme can play an important role in helping them stay active and comfortable.

If you'd like to find out whether hydrotherapy could benefit your dog, get in touch with us to discuss💙

🐾 Hip Dysplasia & Hydrotherapy 🐾

Hip dysplasia is a common condition that affects many dogs, causing instability in the hip joint, pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. You may notice your dog struggling to get up, becoming reluctant to exercise, or developing a "bunny hopping" gait when running.

Hydrotherapy is an excellent way to help dogs living with hip dysplasia. The buoyancy of water supports the body's weight, reducing pressure on painful joints while allowing dogs to move more freely and comfortably. This enables them to exercise without the impact of walking or running on hard surfaces.

Regular hydrotherapy sessions can help:
💙 Strengthen the muscles supporting the hips
💙 Improve joint mobility and flexibility
💙 Increase overall fitness and endurance
💙 Reduce pain and discomfort
💙 Support weight management, which is vital for joint health

By building strength and encouraging controlled movement, hydrotherapy can help improve quality of life and keep dogs active for longer.

If your dog has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia, hydrotherapy may be a valuable part of their treatment and management plan alongside veterinary guidance.
