π½οΈπ Supporting Nutrition Through Dementia-Friendly Dining ππ½οΈ
At Bloomfield Court Care Home, we are continuing our dementia care journey by exploring the important link between dementia and nutrition.
As part of our commitment to providing person-centred care, we have introduced a bright red dining set to help support residents living with dementia during mealtimes.
Did you know?
π΄ People living with dementia can experience changes that make eating and drinking more difficult, including:
β’ Difficulty recognising food, plates or cutlery.
β’ Reduced appetite or forgetting to eat and drink.
β’ Changes in vision, making it harder to distinguish food from the plate.
β’ Becoming easily distracted during mealtimes.
Research has shown that using high-contrast coloured tableware, such as red plates, bowls and cups, can help some people with dementia:
β€οΈ See their food more clearly.
β€οΈ Recognise plates and cups more easily.
β€οΈ Increase food and fluid intake.
β€οΈ Feel more confident and independent during meals.
Every small change can make a meaningful difference. By creating a more dementia-friendly dining experience, we aim to support our residents to enjoy their meals, maintain good nutrition and hydration, and continue living well.
At Bloomfield Court, we are always looking for ways to enhance the care we provide because every resident deserves to dine with dignity, comfort and enjoyment.
