Victoria and I spent a really enjoyable day talking to folk at Exeter Crematorium's Open Day about meaningful funeral options and bereavement support. A beautiful willow coffin from Woven Farewell Coffins attracted lots attention thanks to Sophia's skill and being a locally-sourced , environmentally-kind product.

Arranging a funeral is often just one part of a much bigger journey. Many families tell us that once the service is over, they’re left wondering:

• What happens with probate?
• Do I need to do anything with the Will?
• How do I notify banks and organisations?
• Where do I even start?

If you have questions after the funeral, please know that you don’t have to navigate them alone. We’re here to help point you in the right direction and connect you with trusted specialists who can offer guidance and support such as Laurelo .

Because care shouldn’t end on the day of the funeral.

“I don’t want any fuss.”

It’s something we hear people say all the time when talking about what they would like when they die. But what does “no fuss” actually mean?

It doesn’t necessarily mean no funeral, no ceremony or no opportunity for family and friends to come together. Often, it simply means not wanting anything elaborate, expensive or dictated by convention.

There are many ways to create a meaningful farewell without following a traditional funeral format. From natural burial grounds and sustainable willow coffins to beautiful countryside venues where families can take their time and celebrate a life without feeling rushed, there are more choices than many people realise.

As an independent funeral director, Damon believes that taking the time to understand what someone really means by “I don’t want any fuss” is an important part of helping families create a farewell that feels right.

His latest guest article for whiteballoonfuneralhub looks this idea in more detail, and why sometimes “no fuss” doesn’t mean doing less – it simply means focusing on what matters most.

Could donating your body to medical research be an option? It's a question many people have, but few know much about the process.

Did you know that:

• You must register your wishes during your lifetime.
• Not every donation can be accepted.
• Families can still choose to hold a memorial service.

For many people, body donation is a way of making a lasting contribution to medical education and the training of future healthcare professionals.

In our latest blog, we've answered some of the most common questions, including what happens afterwards and whether body donation is considered a more sustainable option.

We hope it helps anyone considering this important decision or simply wanting to understand the options available.

When someone "doesn't want any fuss" and they buy a direct cremation online, this is often how it really works. There is no better illustration of why it's SO much kinder (in every way) to your family to Keep It Local!

It would be dignified, quiet and discreet, according to the plans.

As more people consider the impact they have on the environment throughout their lives, it's only natural that many families are also thinking about how those values can be reflected in a final farewell.

From supporting local businesses to choosing biodegradable materials and handcrafted willow coffins, there are now many thoughtful ways to create a funeral that is both personal and environmentally considerate.

The coffin in this photo is made using Somerset willow from Woven Farewell Coffins and the flowers also locally sourced from the Blackdowns.

Our latest blog looks at what a sustainable funeral can mean and how small choices can make a meaningful difference. You can read the full article over on our website: https://countrysidefunerals.co.uk/sustainable-funerals-devon/

Recent research has highlighted something many families quietly discover after losing a loved one...that having the chance to say goodbye properly can matter more than we realise.

For many, funerals aren't about “making a fuss”, they are about coming together, sharing memories and taking the first steps through grief with the support of family, friends and community.

As an independent funeral director and member of SAIF independent funeral directors, the team here at Countryside Funerals believe every farewell should feel personal, respectful and right for the family involved.

We’ve shared some thoughts during Hospice UK Dying Matters Week about funeral choices, grief and why conversations around saying goodbye are so important over on our website. You can read them here: https://countrysidefunerals.co.uk/why-saying-goodbye-matters/

There is a quiet power in being present. Did you know that 79% of people find attending a funeral essential for acknowledging their loss?

We pride ourselves on holding a space for you to say a real, heartfelt goodbye that feels right for you. Whether that’s through a favourite song, a shared story, a football team, or even a much-needed moment of laughter.
