The Oxytocin Effect
Have you ever been told to “put your baby down”,
“you’ll spoil them”, or
“you’re making a rod for your own back”?
Well… what if those cuddles are actually helping your baby’s developing brain?
Oxytocin is a hormone involved in love, safety, connection and bonding. Responsive care, physical touch and close connection help create the safe environment in which a baby’s brain can develop and learn.
So go on…
Enjoy the extra cuddle.
Kiss your baby.
Respond when they need you.
Hold them for as long as they want to be held.
You aren't creating bad habits.
You aren't spoiling your baby.
You're building connection.
Every cuddle, every loving response and every moment of connection is helping your baby’s developing brain.
So when someone tells you to “put your baby down”…
You can smile, cuddle them a little closer, and carry on.

World Breastfeeding Week: Words Matter The words we use can have a lifelong impact on a mother’s feeding experience.
We’ve all experienced moments where we’ve replayed conversations in our minds — remembering words that stayed with us, sometimes long after they were spoken.
When a mother is navigating feeding, the language used around her can shape how she feels about herself, her baby, and her feeding journey.
Our philosophy is simple: to provide individualised, kind and sensitive care to every family who invites us into their home.
We believe every family deserves to feel heard, respected, supported and empowered — without judgement.
Because words matter. 🤍

If your baby isn't feeding at the breast it's inportant to continue removing milk frequently to maintain a supply. Howeger this doesn't have to be to a strict schedule. Babies don't feed like this so why pump like this??
If it's better for you to do more pumping at some times of the day than others that's fine. It's best not to leave any gaps longer than about 5 hours as this affects your hormones negatively. And removal of milk during the night is important!.
Many mums find it hard to sustain pumping over a long period of time - especially if this wasn't in your plan -, so seek support to transition back to the breast if this is what you want to do.
For help with this or other breastfeeding or tongue tie issues you can book an appointment in your own home if you live in or around Greater Manchester.

Babies use all their senses for feeding - it's how their instincts and reflexes work.
Touching your skin helps them to orientate themselves to the breast and relax into feeding. If you've been covering your baby's hands for feeds and find that they're unsettled or not really relaxing try letting your baby rest their hands on your skin - you may notice a difference!
If you're in Greater Manchester and need support with breastfeeding or bottle feeding in your own home contact us for a informal discussion about how we can help.you.

A little reminder that our Summer Baby Social is next week ☀️

Join us on Wednesday 8th July for a lovely morning of connection, relaxation and making memories with your little one.

We'll have baby massage with Lisa from Calmer Llama, a gentle baby sound bath with me, and Cass will be capturing some beautiful summer photos of your little ones. There'll also be tea, coffee and cake, with plenty of time to chat and connect with other mums.

We're also delighted to have Paula and Laura from The Little Latch Company with us. They're infant feeding specialist midwives and will be available for support and can weigh your baby too, so don't forget to bring your red book.

There are now only a few tickets left and we'd love to see you there 🤍
