MY JOURNEY
In 2018 I ran the Cardiff half marathon and ended up collapsing and going to hospital with a kidney infection.
I started going to the toilet more, I had to plan journeys around toilets, wear nappy style underwear for women, hardly slept. Put on antibiotics and told I had a weak pelvic floor muscle.
After we came out of covid lock downs my doctor referred me to urology. They did scans, they put cameras in and they did biopsies, but all they found was a cyst on my right o***y and as they were monitoring it they saw it was growing steadily so they referred me to gynaecology.
Gynaecology (male) said its only 5.5cms, it will go away on its own, cysts don't cause symptoms, its your pelvic floor.
A different gynaecologist (female) said I needed keyhole surgery to remove both ovaries and the cyst and she sent me for a pre op assessment.
Then in August 2025 (nearly 3 years later) I got a phone call to say I had come to the top of the waiting list (that I should never of been on) and my op was booked for 20th August.
19th August op cancelled, no up to date scans, even though they were supposed to be monitoring me. Sent for MRI. Sent for CT as cyst needed to be reclassified.
Results: cyst was now 17.5cm with suspicious characteristics.
The eviction of the spawn of Satan (19cm at time of removal and weighed 8lbs) was eventually 13th October with everything else removed as well, including a chemo wash.
Histology came back and I have a rare mucinous ovarian cancer that only affects 3% of all ovarian cancers. But the doctor in Cardiff was 99.9% sure I wouldn't need chemo because I had the expansile subtype.
2 days later I'm told I have the rare infiltrative subtype that only affects 20% and I will need to have chemo. And they apologised about the mix up because I should never of been called into Cardiff as they didn't have all the biopsies back at that point.
6 sessions, 1 every 3 weeks. Paclitaxel and carboplatin. Started 12th December. I've had every side affect that chemo can throw at you and I had a couple of severe allergic reactions thrown in as well, but I kept smiling and I tried to keep walking, doing yoga and going swimming on my good days. Posting my journey on my Fb and insta encouraging friends to get their b!ts, t!ts and sh!ts tested.
Its been the worst rollercoaster ride of my life but 27th March was my 6th and final chemo session. I'm nearly at the end of my journey, a few bad days here and there to go through, good days will get more and more. CT scan 22nd April, blood tests 7th May and results booked for 8th May. Champagne 🍾 is already on ice.
May 8th scan results:
A small mesenteric nodule is noted anterior to the left liver lobe. This is suspicious of peritoneal deposit.
Conclusion: Peritoneal nodule is suspicious for tumour deposit.
This nodule was not there prior to surgery.
They had a meeting Wednesday 13th May and I'm booked in next Wednesday 20th May for a biopsy, I've also got to have bloods on Friday and Tuesday.
