Two years ago today, we had to say goodbye to Norbie. 💔
But today, I don’t want to remember the day he left. I want to remember the day he came into our lives. The beginning of a beautiful journey. The moment Milo met him. The moment I welcomed home a soul I believe had always belonged in my life.
A Reunion
You didn’t arrive that day,
you came home.
When Milo first met you,
he seemed to know what I already felt…
that you were meant to be here.
There was no hesitation,
no uncertainty
just kindness meeting kindness,
grace meeting grace.
Within moments,
the two of you were trotting away together,
as though you had always known
where the other belonged.
For me,
it was different.
I didn’t simply welcome you home.
It felt as though
I was welcoming you back.
Because I believe
there are souls
that belong to one another
long before time,
long before names,
long before this life.
You were one of them.
You had lived in my heart
since it first began to beat.
I simply hadn’t found you yet.
To love you,
to care for you,
to walk beside you in this lifetime
was one of life’s greatest gifts.
Two years ago today,
our paths seemed to part.
Only our bodies did.
Your soul never left.
I still find you
in the quiet,
in the wind,
in the light that falls across the field,
in every place where love still lingers.
Some days,
the memory of losing you
still takes my breath away.
I remember the desperate drive,
the hope that refused to let go,
and the ache of wondering
if you were afraid,
if you suffered.
That thought
will always break my heart.
But I refuse
to let your final moments
be the story of your life.
Because you were gentleness.
You were wisdom.
You were kindness
wrapped in a beautiful chestnut coat.
You were home.
I miss you
with a love
too deep for words.
And yet,
I know this isn’t goodbye.
It never was.
It is simply the space
between one reunion
and the next.
Until I find you again,
carry on running free.
You’ll always be part of my soul,
just as I know
I’ll always be part of yours. 💚
