IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR EXPECTANCE PARENTS – main entrance road closure on Monday 23 March 2026 from 7pm to 4am

Due to essential resurfacing works, the main road in front of the Trelawny entrance to Princess Alexandra Maternity Wing/Emergency Department, will be closed on Monday night from 7pm to 4am. Please see the map below.

We want to reassure all expectant parents that:

• You can still reach Princess Alexandra Maternity Wing/Emergency Department safely at any time.
• If you are in labour or attending with an emergency or concern, please use Penventinnie Lane from the A390 between Treliske roundabout and Truro Golf Club (usually a bus route).
• Follow the road directly to the Princess Alexandra Maternity Wing (PAMW)/Emergency Department.
• Although Penventinnie Lane includes a bus only section, you are allowed to use this route during the closure.
• Maternity staff, site marshals, and switchboard will all be aware of the diversion.

Orange line – exit back onto Penventinnie Lane.
Green line – vehicle access.
Blue line – bus route.

A Huge Thank You to the First 100 Families!

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 100 people who have joined the Generation Study here at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust . Your participation is helping to shape the future of newborn healthcare and making a real difference for families across the country.

The Generation Study is a pioneering national research programme delivered by Genomics England in partnership with the NHS. It aims to sequence the genomes of 100,000 newborn babies to screen for over 200 rare but treatable genetic conditions. This early insight can support quicker diagnosis, more timely treatment, and better long‑term health outcomes for children.

The study also supports vital research into how genes influence health and explores the potential benefits of securely storing genomic data to support future NHS care.

We’re incredibly proud that RCHT has now recruited 100 participants—a significant milestone and a testament to the dedication of our research teams and the generosity of participating families.
