At Aesthetics, we keep a close eye on everything shaping the specialty, from trending treatments and buzzwords to myth-busting and calling out poor practice.

We’re delighted to introduce a new regular column on page 8, ‘In the Spotlight.’ Each month, the feature will explore key debates, noteworthy publications and treatments making headlines across the field.

In its debut appearance in our June issue, we hear from:
discussing digital ethics
addressing wellness culture
spotlighting menopausal treatment options

Look out for ‘In the Spotlight’ each month to stay informed on the conversations, trends and developments shaping the specialty beyond the treatment room.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, yet it is largely preventable.

For aesthetic practitioners, this presents a clear opportunity to influence patient behaviour in a meaningful and lasting way.

The British Skin Foundation (BSF) promotes a simple, consistent approach to sun protection – one that moves beyond seasonal messaging and becomes part of everyday skin health.

Skin boosters are injectable formulations, most commonly based on non- or lightly cross-linked HA designed to improve skin quality rather than alter facial contours.

Unlike volumising fillers, which target structural support and shape, skin boosters are placed more superficially with the aim of enhancing hydration, elasticity and surface texture through restoration of the extracellular matrix and increased dermal water content.

In the June issue of the Aesthetics Journal, aesthetic practitioners Dr Asad Naqvi, Dr Raul Cetto, Dr Aneesha Ahmad and plastic surgeon Miss Jonquille Chantrey discuss the clinical use of skin boosters for skin quality optimisation.

Injectable treatments offer non-surgical options to soften, harmonise and feminise facial features, although they cannot reduce underlying bone structure which has been influenced by testosterone.

Instead, the treatments focus on camouflage, contouring and proportion, while maintaining realistic expectations and prioritising psychological safety.

In the May issue of the Aesthetics Journal, nurse practitioner Sophie Brooks presents a trauma-aware injectable case study in gender-affirming facial feminisation.
