Evening all,

I have had a HUGE increase in patients coming in saying they have back, neck, shoulder and elbow pain that they atttribute to using watering cans due to the hosepipe ban!

Lets face it, most of us appreciate the sunshine, albeit a little too hot at times, but the hosepipe ban has led to us all having to water our gardens with a single watering can. I have had a lot of patients coming in over the last few weeks with injuries they attribute to watering cans. The one thing the all have in common? Using just one can.

Watering cans can be quite heavy particularly if we are doing several trips to water our gardens or veg patches. One quick and easy tip is to use 2 watering cans. This way, you are much more balanced when carrying them. Also, only fill them to a point that you can carry. Much better to do a few more trips than really struggle to carry them.

If you are struggling with any kind of 'watering can injury' give us a call on 01962 717817 to see how we can help.

Keep enjoying the sunshine but lets also do a little rain dance!

FEET!

Clare here again.
Most of my patients will know I assess feet quite a lot even if they haven't come in with foot pain. Here's why:

1) We are on our feet an awful lot throughout the day which can create a build up of tension
2) A lot of us are very good (ok...some of us are ok 🤣) at stretching/strengthening our back, legs, upper bodies etc but we seem to forget about our feet
3) Fun Fact: There are 26 bones and 33 joints in one foot! That's just over 12% of the 206 bones in your entire body in one foot. For those who suck at maths, approximately 25% (1/4) of your bones are in your feet. This tells me that feet should move
4) We cram our feet into socks and shoes that often don't actually fit our feet very well
5) We have thousands of receptors and nerve endings in our feet that sense where the ground is and relay instant messages to the brain via various nerve pathways

Feet are important! I use a fair bit of muscle testing in my assessments and so often I am led to the feet. All of our chiropractors use a whole body approach to our assessment and treatment so don't be at all surprised if you come in with back or neck pain and we assess your feet.

Hot one today! Likely to continue over the next few days so make sure you keep your water intake up!

Clare here again...many of my patients will tell you that one of the simplest things I get them to do to help their recovery is DRINK MORE WATER!
I have often said I think the majority of us are walking round slightly dehydrated and it seems the NHS agree with me.
Water is SO IMPORTANT! On average, 60% of the human body is water. The recommended daily intake of water is between 2-3litres a day depending on each individual are their activity/workload. Below are some of the reason we need to keep up with our water intake.

🔸Improved mood
🔸Higher energy levels
🔸Better healing
🔸Better brain function
🔸Better sport performance
🔸Improved digestive and kidney health
🔸Maintaining better skin

If you are thirsty, you are already mildly dehydrated. We are lucky that water is readily available to us so if you want to do one thing to help yourself, the easiest thing, in my opinion, is to up the water intake. I generally advise people to increase slowly e.g. If you drink approx 500mls currently, increase intially to 850mls or 1 litre and then build on that rather than going straight from 500mls to 2.5 litres. That way your body can acclimatise to the change and you are less likely to find yourself running to the loo every 5 minutes 🤣
