🌟Did you know🌟

The NHS is running a time-limited MenB vaccination campaign for eligible young people. First doses are available until December 31, 2026, and second doses (given at least 28 days later) must be completed by March 31, 2027.

The free vaccine can be received via walk-in appointments at participating pharmacies.

The program offers two doses to those at highest risk of meningococcal disease before starting higher education.

Eligible individuals include:
✅Anyone currently in Year 13 (or born between September 1, 2007, and August 31, 2008).
✅Students under 25 starting university for the first time.
✅International students under 25 starting their first year at an English university this autumn.
✅Those under 25 who will be moving into further education accommodation or halls of residence for the first time

A time-limited MenB vaccine offer is available now for eligible young people aged 17 and 18 and under 25s who will be starting university as undergraduates or moving into residential further education settings for the first time in autumn 2026.

** The following is an extract from correspondence we have recieved from NHS England regarding the upcoming meningitis B vaccination campaign **

The programme will offer MenB vaccination to those at highest immediate risk ahead of the autumn academic term, specifically:

- Individuals completing Year 13 in summer 2026 (born 1 September 2007 to 31 August 2008), and
- Individuals under 25 years of age starting university or moving into residential further education for the first time in autumn 2026.

Eligible individuals will require two doses of MenB vaccine for optimal protection, with the first dose expected to be offered from 20th July, followed by a second dose in August, with at least 28 days between the doses.

This one-off programme will help protect young people at highest immediate risk ahead of the usual autumn peak in meningitis in this age group.

At present:

- Regional NHS England Public Health Commissioning Teams will lead the response working with ICBs.
- No action is required from GP practices or School-Aged Immunisation Services.
- Providers will be confirmed in the coming weeks with community pharmacies supporting the programme.

Pharmacies are being used for this cohort to provide greater flexibility and accessibility, recognising that many individuals move frequently between their home and place of study. Community pharmacies offer a convenient, nationwide network, enabling individuals to receive their vaccination in a range of locations and to complete their course (including a second dose) at a different site if needed.

Good morning,

Like much of the village, East Hoathly Medical Centre is currently without a water supply.

Unfortunately, this means it is unsafe for us to continue seeing patients at the surgery today. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to patients who were due to attend appointments.

If you have an appointment at East Hoathly Medical Centre today, a member of our reception team will contact you to advise where your appointment will take place.

Patients who wish to collect medication from the dispensary are asked to do so before 1:00 pm, after which our team will be relocating to an alternative site.

We have been registered as a priority customer with South East Water and will provide further updates as soon as we receive them. In the meantime, the surgery doors will be closing shortly.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Good morning,

Our website provider is experiencing some national outage issues this morning meaning that the website is unavailable to many users.

We have reached out to the website provider for an urgent fix and we are waiting to hear back.

If you need to submit an urgent medical request form for today, please call the surgery and our reception team will do their best to help. Please be mindful that there will be more calls that usual coming through and therefore the wait times may be longer.

Network connectivity issues

We would like to let our patients know that there is an ongoing IT issue across the whole of the Sussex and Surrey.

This is currently intermittently affecting our three surgery sites, along with other local GP practices, with Manor Oak being affected at this current time.

We are continuing to escalate this to our IT supplier each time our systems go down and they are supplying updates when they can.

Our team will continue to do their best with the limited resources available to them and we are very grateful for the patience and ongoing support of all of our patients during this time.

To all of our patients who may be concered about the recent outbreak of meningitis in Kent, we have been given the following advice.

For suspected contacts of meningococcal disease, GPs should direct patients to the local UKHSA Health Protection Team (HPT) rather than a single national public helpline.

📞 UKHSA contact routes
🔹 Main route (for patients and clinicians)
UKHSA Health Protection Team (South East – covers Kent)
☎️ 0344 225 3861

👉 This is the correct number for:

Kent meningitis outbreak enquiries
Contact tracing / prophylaxis queries
Advice on whether someone qualifies as a close contact

🩵Vaccination tips for parents🩵

Do
💚remember to take your personal child health record (PCHR) – in England this is usually known as the "red book"
💚let the practice or clinic know if someone else is taking your child for vaccinations
💚dress your baby in clothes that are easy to remove – babies under 12 months have injections in the thigh
💚dress toddlers and older children in loose or short sleeves – they'll have their injections in the arm
💚try to stay calm during the vaccination – it's natural to worry but it might make your child anxious and restless
💚let your child know what's going to happen in simple language – for example, "you may feel a sharp scratch that will go away very fast"
💚hold your child on your knee during the injection – if you're worried about seeing injections you could ask a nurse or another member of staff to hold them for you

Don’t
❌do not rush to get to your appointment – giving yourself plenty of time can help you and your child avoid feeling stressed and anxious
❌do not be worried about speaking to the nurse or doctor – they can answer any questions you have about vaccination
